Here at DFW we will be starting in June the use of hand scanners to punch in and punch out. These read hand size and not any type of palm or finger prints.
Does anyone else out there use this system?
Sounds like a great way to spread germs.., :( you know keep the sick time up.
Now you have to go 1 (per terminal) employee portal, then scan your ramp access badge, then go through a metal scanner along with x-raying your lunch jacket etc. Next walk through the terminal go downstairs using a special key and find a timeclock to punch in.
The new system will limit us to where we can clock in/out, it will also take much longer due to the scan read time. You will have to punch in your emp no then place your hand on the scanner pad and wait for an OK. There is no way to sanitize every hand put in. BIG DUMB. AA....
Sounds like a big waste of money for these new systems.
I guess all those top heavy jobs at HDQ have to do something to justify there jobs. I see that good for a couple years. Redesigning, changing empl numbers system wide implamentation etc. Gee some one's brother-n-law could retire on that job.
Brought to you by another HDQ make work project to keep highly talanted personel employed at the Palace on 360

I don't imagine that this is in any way related to "Homeland Security" is it?  Is it only AA that is doing this or is it being implemented in DFW as a whole.  Just a few questions before we condemn (yet again) management.

Along the same lines, I seem to remember an article awhile ago about CLT using retina scanners for SIDA access. Maybe someone else can fill in the specifics?

Passanger service will also use the scan device in the area. We will not be aloud to use theirs or they ours.
The problem with retina scan is "pink eye" which is very contagious.
As far as homeland security. How could it help we already have to have our ramp badges scanned and then visually checked before we can even get to the x-ray and screener.
It is so stupid all I would have to do is take the publis access road stop the car walk 8 feet to the fence slip in a kmife and pick it up later. There is only a chain link fence between the public access raod and the ramp roadway going from AE to Terminal A. Security is a big joke.

It's 50% due to security and 50% due to keep people from badging out other employees.

Here in MIA we have had the pleasure of the hand scanner for about 2 years. You put your finger on the scanner and it clocks you in and out. We use to have 1 to do the whole shift at the hanger. Then they were going to make us puch in and out at our zones. But with that came the problems of buying lockers for each zone to change and space etc.. so they took all the scanners and put them at the hanger. No more D&Gs  but thats the way they want it. No more incentive pay 8 hours pay for 8.5 hours of work

Dont worry you will get use to them just like all the other changes that have been forced upon you. Either by the company or the bargaining of the twu
