Ive never heard of a "union Contract" that agreed to not only set a wage so low that the company could not hire people but also let the company raise the starting wage-AT THEIR SOLE DISCRETION!

Has anyone out there ever seen anything like this before? In a union contract that is?

When I show our contract to other Union people I know, they are stunned. Most claim that with a contract like this we are stretching it by saying that we have a union contract.

If the company insisted on such a low wage, and we gave it to them, then we should make them live with it. If they say they cant get people then we make permanent changes not just allow them to raise and lower starting pay as they see fit. When the crunch came it would have been the perfect opportunity to eliminate the long progression to top pay.

If I understand, you are advocating lower wages?

Flex srarting rates are just that. If you live in a high cost of living area than the company and Union agreed to set the starting rate higher to attract potential employees. Oh Bob when was this put in the contract?

Also I believe under the M&R this is a mute subject designed to mis-lead!! Please continue, tell someone what they want to hear instead of the facts!!!!!

I classify you as a disgrunted wantabe that will never be happy even if amfa was to make it in!!!!!!

Once again you are WRONG.

God help us!

First of all you need to read the contract. Flex rates and be used anywhere at "THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE COMPANY". They can be put in whenever they want and withdrawn whenever they want.

The fact is that this union promoted a contract that had a starting wage that was so low that in many areas of the country the company could not get mechanics. Thats pretty pathetic when a union contract is below "market rates". I believe it was put in during the late eighties. Just goes to show the TWUs long history of concessionary bargaining.
