First Response To Wn In Pit?

Airtran effectively had no service beyond Philadelphia.

How many cities does Southwest connect to out of PHL?

Also the loyalty that was once there to USAirways is long gone.

Where does WN conx through PHL that you can't go non-stop via US from PIT?
Even WN has to deal with the philly phactor.

Biggest difference between FL's experience and WN's potential is that WN has incredible name recognition. FL didn't, and still doesn't.

You can bet that Southwest will price PIT-PHL a lot more aggressively than AirTran did as well. To quote AirTran's news release when they announced PIT-PHL:

AirTran Airways is offering a special introductory fare of $49 each way to celebrate the new service. Tickets must be purchased by May 29, 2001, and travel must be completed by October 3, 2001. This $49 introductory fare represents a 50 percent reduction from current leisure fare levels. The lowest walkup fare will be $119, nearly 50 percent lower than current walkup fares.

Southwest's intro fare will probably be $29-39, with a maximum walkup fare of $89, based on what was seen last year at PHL.

You also have to remember that AirTran started PIT-PHL two months before 9/11, and they really wouldn't have had time to establish themselves in the market before traffic numbers and yields cratered.

I didn't think it was worth starting a new thread......

For anyone that hasn't heard, WN will be using gates A1 & A3 in PIT. That's the gates nearest the main terminal on A concourse, which we use for express flights.

Thought I'd also add:

Everyone knows that US has matched WN/FL in nonstop markets PIT-PHL/MDW and CLT-ATL/BWI.

Wanted to note that US is also matching (or very close to it) in many WN/FL connecting markets like PIT-BDL and CLT-DFW.

And WN pax connecting at PHL get the added bonus of often having to change terminals and reclear security.

US is matching almost every 1 stop WN fare, and not just those connecting in PHL. One can connect to the left coast on WN at MDW and LAS.
