F/a "buy Out"

Do you guys think the company is going to allow the involuntary furloughed flight attendants that may possibly at some point be scehuduled to return back to mainline to pass once before having to come back ????

19.2.G of the May 2001 CBA

" A furloughed flight attendant who fails to accept a recall shall remain on furloughed status and said offer of recall shall be extended to the flight attendant next on the seniority list until there are no more junior flight attendants on furlough. A furloughed flight attendant who fails to accept a recall when there are no more junior flight attendants on furlough shall be considered to have resigned from the Company".

There is more "language" that you should read in section 19 of that agreement if you are considering passing a recall.

That is to say if they are honoring that part of the "still in full force" agreement.

When can furloughees expect to hear something? Any idea in what amounts they would recall? And what's the base situation like- would recalls go to LGA or PHL?

PitBull,

With all the jobs out there you talked about during negotiations, I was wondering if you going to be leaving ?

Twice,

If the f/as keeep resigning, and retiring at the rate of about 100 per month, there won't be any unemployment as part of the VFLR.

Are there new rules for voluntary furloughs.

The company put this memo out last week.

January 31, 2005

Dear Voluntary Furlough 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 Participant:

I am writing to remind you that you may apply for an extension of your Voluntary Furlough, which is scheduled to expire on May 31, 2005. A copy of the Flight Attendant Request to Extend Voluntary Furlough form is reprinted on the reverse side of this letter. Please note that the deadline for submitting your extension request is Wednesday, March 2, 2005. You may send your extension form either by mail or by facsimile to Inflight Administration in Crystal City. The address and facsimile number is on the extension form. The results of the award process will be available on Wednesday, March 23, 2005.

I thought all VF-1 were forced to come back to work or resign. What has changed?

What impact will this have on VFLR?

Sounds like the company might never offer the VFLR.

How many Involuntary Furlongh are out there?

I think the way it goes if you vote in a contract without the language already polished up you really put yourself in a world of possible hurt.

The extension is a GOOD thing. If it is the same as the VF1 they will be able to stay on furlough for an indefinate period. Basically, until the company needs/wants them back. The VF1 furloughees had an option. They could come back, extend indefinately or resign permantently.

As for the INVOLS there are appox. 1,700.

The VFLR WILL BE OFFERED. Were are you getting the false information that it won't.

Rememer...Jumpseat gossip is not Gospel!!!! It would be a bunch of bitter F/A's with nothing more to do than complain. Those few need to go then.

Twicebaked,

It is not good for the people wanting to take the VFLR and receive unemployment. I am not wanting to be selfish, but I feel that I should be able to receive unemployment if/when I decide to sign up for the VFLR and leave.

Also I was unaware that VF1's had 3 options. I thought they could either come back or resign. What is this extend indefinately?

Just,

Unemployment insurance compensation is for people who are INVOLUNTARILY UNEMPLOYED. It seems you are wanting to have your cake and eat it too. If you want to leave and take the ten grand, by all means do it. The relative pittance you would get from the state for six months isn't worth a major life decision, in my book!

Hey DC,
All voluntarily furloughs got unemployment comp up to this point. I just want to get what was given to everyone else.

I also feel that I am helping the company out in the long run by leaving my 22 yr pay behind and giving another person a job and the company a cheaper replacement.

Also we are talking about $460 per week for 26 weeks. If you call that a pittance than more power to you.

Yes, I would like to have my cake and eat it too. After 22+ years of being a good employee I feel it a push. They gave me a good opportunity and I gave them all I had.

It's a big decision to leave. It would be nice to know if you were going unemployment comp or not BEFORE you go.

Just,

I agree that it would be a great thing to have, but isn't it kind of out of the company's hands... I mean, it goes by whatever the prevailing laws are in the resident state and you can apply and the company can contest your application or not contest it. If everyone who takes a VFLR applies, that's a lot of contesting the company has to do and you can always tell the unemployment office that it was a furlough because it is. It's up to them and it's up to the company to reallocate its resources (i.e., employees, and remember there are now fewer of them in Arlington just like around the rest of the system) to timely respond to the unemployment office's inquiry. If you lose, you can appeal and the company will probably be a no-show to the appeal hearing (especially if all those taking the VFLR file appeals).

Best of luck to you with your decision and thank you for your years of dedicated service to the company.

Regards,
DCAflyer
