Emb 170s Make Me Sick!

You know PINEY I'm tired of your attitude. You don't get it do you. It's not entitlement it's about job security, pay, benefits and dreams that get crushed by management teams/weak unions (MEC Reps)/and political agendas. Time for you to step off. I've been around quite a while the RJ is a serious let me say SERIOUS threat to all the regional jet pilots who want to fly Boeings and Airbus for the Legacy Carriers. And for those who think most of them won't be around...think again.

Boeing787 times have changed and will continue to change so you need to adapt. The reality is the legacy carriers aren't what they used to be, they had better adapt or they will be gone just like the textiles industry and the corner hardware store. If you like flying then fly for what you can make, if you like making lots of money you had better find another career. I can't think of a time in the history of aviation when there was security in this industry. None of the legacy carriers are making money, I'm sure if you could show them how to do it with a high cost structure and compete against the LCC's you could get a job in upper management yesterday.

Do you all really believe this poster is an active Airline U employee?? Take note that this poster is most active on the UAL forum, so certainly not associated with U.

I suspect a very aviation minded young person, well informed in airline terminology gleaned from forums such as this, who is watching the unraveling of his/her dreams.

I sympathize with this person .. but reject the crude criticism of our workforce.

Don't let this poster "ruffle your feathers", as that is only encouragement for future insults!

Does anyone know what the standard cruise speed and normal cruise altitude is to be on the EMB line?

Oh, about 30,000 feet higher and about 400 MPH faster than what boeing787 will ever cruise at.

The only problem with the EMB-170 is that it is an unproven aircraft in actual flight operations. I'm sure the fine folks at Embraer have worked very hard to ensure this aircraft meets all of the performance targets that it is advertising. Sure, there will be teething problems, but those types of things occur with every new design that comes to market. Many of the features of this aircraft have already been proven on the EMB-120 Brasilia and the ERJ-135 and 145. So where is the problem? I think there are a lot of people out there who see this aircraft as a threat because for the first time since the F-28 and F-100, pay scales for ALPA members are being rooled back rather than increased. I can't be sure, but I think ALPA was the group that initiated the pay scales that were based on the number of seats in each aircraft, and since these aircraft have less seats than an A230 family plane, ALPA is very afraid that Dave and Co. will replace A320 and B737 flying with these aircraft. Well, I hate to alarm you Sparky, but that is EXACTLY what they want to do. Right now, US operates A320 and B737 family airfcraft on routes that don't make any money or and sense, especially when you can take a new design with better fuel efficiency and fil lthe damn thing rather than flying with a 70% load factor. It only makes sense. The A320 and B737 aircraft will be deployed to longer stage length and new domestic and Carribbean markets while the EMB-170 will be used to feed these new markets. How stupid can the average pilot, flight attendant, ramp worker, and mechanic be to NOT understand this concept? Dave is on to something and if he can bring people to the hubs in EMB-170's at a profitable rate and transfer them to A320 and B737 aircraft for the long haul, US will eat WN and JB's lunch and have money left over to meet the ATSB loan requirements and those of Dr. Bronner. This war among the unions reminds me of the road sign I used to see in my neighborhood.... Slow..Children Playing.
Well, union types are just that, SLOW to see the big picture. Any they are merely children - playing with the future of US Airways by resisting what is needed to make US prosper into the future.

The preliminary info that we saw at CHQ for the EMB170 was cieling of FL410 and MMO of .82 Mach. The ERJ135/145 has a cieling of FL370 and a MMO of .78 Mach. We generally flight plan at .74-.76M, so I'd guess a .78 or .80 planned cruise in the E170. Adequately fast for 1000 mile legs..
