From the joy of the person that was willing to say "wow, thanks for helping out", this thread, and the PHX union have completely turned a great situation into a ridiculous controversy over greed, poor relations with management and really frustrated the heck out of a lot of employees that care about the customer, care about a solid reputation, care about a generating revenue for long term viability.

In this holiday season, we must be thankful that we have paychecks, the ability to travel when we desire and the opportunity to help people, young, old, sick, healthy, naughty and nice, travel to see their loved ones or be with those in need of other people in this time of the year. 2006 is around the corner and the merger will progress, like it or not, our only choice is the do what's right and take care of the customer, take part in our future and most of all......be thankful!

Anyone have the AFA contract that covers IRREGULAR Operations?

700UW brings up the part of the contract covering normal revenue flying.

This instance was a cancelled flight with US-East picking up the slack.

Speaking of union violations, did you guys all know that BMI British Midland used an Icelandair 757 to fly IAD-MAN with only 2 BD flight attendants.. other crew members were Icelandair. These were sold as BD flights. I wonder how many grievances were filed on behalf of the BD employees?

Oh, another Star Alliance partner, United Airlines, "wet leased" a 767-300ER to SAS to fly IAD-CPH and ORD-CPH. I wonder if the SAS pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, and everyone else grieved this. I believe UA flew these flights for 4 months as SK flights.

Couple of weeks ago, PSA operated an extra flight for us when our MidAtlantic flight cancelled. I'm wondering if ALPA has a right to grieve that.

The company cannot afford to pay it. They presumably did it to make sure the customer (you remember them) got taken care of. Every so often, those nuisances get in the way, but once in awhile you have to think about actually doing something for them.Try your scope when you shut the place down. They had plenty of it at Eastern, Pan Am, and TWA,to name a few.

I agree Usairways seemed to have served the pax best. That being said there were some not completely upfront situations that arose.

East Agents……..One spv in phx, rest awa and plenty of confusion about seating/catering

Crews made standard US announcements....

pax boarding screen did say US flight number...cusotmers were contacted and provided new flight number information

CLP did work all extra section flights

LAX, PHL, PIT, DCA and PHX are all common stations and have been integrated.
 
You non-union, anti-union, people have no clue.

Just like it was ok to let the company farmout the airbus.

The company has agreed to what is in the CBAs, they have to live buy it, they violate they must pay for it, that is the only way the company learns not to break the very contracts they agreed too.

You might not like it, but too damn bad.
So, if you were to have your way this is what would have happened:
-The flights would have cancelled anyway
-The crewmembers would have gotten paid just like they did in the real situation
-The passengers who pay your salary would be accomodated on other flights (probably operated by other airlines)--and may have had to wait 2-3 days to get home?

Since USWest and USEast have 2 separate certificates, this situation is really no different. The USWest flights were cancelled, and the passengers were reaccomodated on another airline. It's that simple.

If you think we should have instead paid to put these people on other airlines (united, american etc) ..then keep that in mind when you complain about not enough pay.

So the company should pay for every violation? Ok, so should the crewmembers. There are several commuters that chose not to fly a deadhead trip at the beginning or end of their trip. For example, LAS commuters meet crews in PHX, and get releasd in LAS at the end of their trip. If they decide to do this, they are required to notify scheduling. Most of the time they do, but there are a few crewmembers that do not notify scheduling (especially at the end of the trip). Maybe we should start "fining" these crewmembers for not following the contract!

700 and Barbie are correct. This was a scope violation. You all better pay attention to the details of your contracts, because the chances are it will happen to you. This is why we have a union and a contract. The company needs to get its %#&^ together and fast. Christmas happens every year, and they still screw it up. I am very happy that our council 66 filed this grievance. They did the right thing.
Airplanes can break anytime during the year, there is no way to predict when you will have more maintenance problems. We do not have extra "Christmas spares" for the busy holiday season.

Once again, it seems like some people here woudl rather see our passengers wait multiple days before getting to their destinations.
 
The company is free to discipline anyone who breaks the rules, just as the union's job to enforce the contract when the company violates it.

Is that concept too hard to comprehend?
 
The company pays the grievance and ceases the violation, bottom line.
So where does this money go after the greivance is paid? To the flight attendants that already got the day off with pay? To the union in genearl . .for what??????????

Once again, that leaves less cash to pay for raises to ALL employees. It all adds up!

My question would be, what is driving the need for these extra sections? ...

This grievance is not only about the DCA flight, but also all the others (including the ones you listed.)

Part of the question has to do with company convince. The amount company pre-planning that went in to these trips would be a significant consideration for any reasonable arbitrator. Was these company actions responsive (resulting from irregular operation) or planed (with out an irregular operation.) The same answer may apply to the DCA flight and one or two others, but all of the flights.

Doug has not hid the fact during various conference calls and town halls the cost savings can be found by having crews work trips in each other's networks.

To be honest, we (west) thought that this issue would gain attention when west crews and aircraft started working trips in and out of east hubs. (For an example, instead of 24 hours in PIT, the crew would have an 18 hour lay over and then work a PIT-BOS turn before working the PIT-PHX/LAS...) Some west FAs have expressed reluctance to working west aircraft on any east route while east FAs are out of furlough. (And such leads to other questions such as, what happens with seniority when a furloughed east FA works said trip while also being an active west FA...)

east and west FAs ought to be very concerned about the company's actions here.

..Again, logic has left the building. It is so simple.

US West and US East are operating as two different airlines at this time. It's like Delta and Continental. If CO sees that Delta is cancelled from EWR-ATL, and they decide to run an extra section (because they have spare A/C), they have every right to do that.The tickets are written over and that's that.

Can't we all just get along?

This plan that Doug refers to, is during the pairing and line construction time frame....not a distressed passenger response!

I have yet to encounter any West FA's that have voiced concern over working an East route. This would be done to enchance a/c utilization, not to replace flying from US East. Just as West would work further East, East would probably further West.
