Earnings Releases

If U post a profit, is that an incentive to accept wage concessions
Are your unions negoitiating cost cutting measures from management ie getting rid of VP's that responsibilities overlap.
And giving more stocks to all employees

FWIW, the ALPA negotiating comm says that the question of management "participation" is one of several questions they ask at the start of each meeting with management. So far no answers have been forthcoming.

It will take another week or so for the accountants to figure out how to hide the profits.
I guess CAL hid their profits with that $17 million loss for the quarter, huh?

The Delta loss IMO was not as telling as the CAL loss as to show what US may report.

HP reported a razor thin profit - down about 90% from the same quarter 2003.

These quarterly comparisons are somewhat skewed by the government handout in the second quarter of last year (and DAL's non-cash tax item).

Im sure there will be showing losses. Lots of bills to pay off early, etc, etc. Cant show a profit until all the labor groups have been beaten and submitted to pay cuts.
We'll see lots of hang wringing and crocodile tears tho!! ;)

I read that USAIRWAYS expects to report breaking even, so it may have turned the corner....

If so, it will demonstrate that it did that "without" the need for any more concessions or cuts....

This gets posted an awful lot, but nobody's come up with an explanation as to how those losses get manufactured.

Paying bills early affects cash flow, not profits. Paying into pension plans affects cash flow, not profits. Paying loans off early affects cash flow, not profits.

See a trend?

Perhaps someone who understands accounting could chime in with a place to hide the profits?

Q2 is as good as it gets for the industry in any given year. For the company to break even in Q2 means that there will be significant losses in Q3 and Q4 unless something is changed.
