'Duck Dynasty' Dad Suspended Following Anti-Gay Remarks

I'm not sure they're a "terrorist" group so much as are a group that aggressively pushes their platform. I mean, shouldn't we expect them to come out (no pun intended) against this?

At the end of the day, I think Glenn nailed it. Robertson had his thoughts put into print (maybe a contract violation, maybe not) and A & E saw a sh*t ton of ad revenue going out the window. Did they overreach? IMO, that's for everyone to decide for themselves.

And that friends is what makes this country great. Watch A&E or don't. Support his views or don't. Wear camo & grow a beard or don't.

Agree.....there was a similar issue involving Chick -fil- a. Don't agree with the owners right to free speech.....don't eat there!

Let's turn this around Tree. A group from GLAAD, state in an interview that they don't believe in the Bible and it's views concerning homosexuality. Within minutes of reading this interview, a group from the Christian coalition denounce GLAAD and their views and the following day, all GLAAD members are laid off from their jobs. Not only would themselves and you start crying "Free speech" but would label the people from the Christian Coalition , Zealots!
So.....does that make members of GLAAD zealots?

I'm glad we found some common ground. He's free to say what he wants (within the bounds of the COTUS, of course), and GLAAD & co. are free to advocate as they wish. Both have "presented" their side (much as Chik-fil-A did), and society is free to act/react accordingly.

I suspect most people don't have nearly as black and white of positions as we may think, though. In my case, I happen to disagree with what he said, but it's not like I'm going to actively boycott A&E. Storage Wars is too guilty of a pleasure for me...

And really; given that a la carte cable pricing hasn't happened yet, most of all of us will still get it (and pay for it) whether we want to or not.

GLAAD is a prime example of a libtard terrorist group.

They function under the guise of equal rights, yet try to use "political correctness" to "police" any opinions that go against their agenda.

You should ask yourself how such a small section of the population has so much influence over our government and media.

I think people are finally starting to see these "civil rights" groups for what they really are.

You accuse me of being a rambling fool and then make a statement like this?  Can you provide one example of a violent act committed by this group?  Have they ever claimed responsibility for a terrorist act?

I was asking my self that same question about other 'terrorist' groups like the Moral Majority.

Reminds me of some actions a couple hundred years ago that motivated a ragtag bunch of people to leave their country and start a new world and write a Constitution.

Maybe its time to start a new country.

I am sure there are instances where someone from GLAAD has said that.  Christian groups have denounced GLAAD and other gay groups.   Hell a few posts back La li called them terrorists.  I'm sure he can find some links for you.  Now you get into some gray area.  Why were they laid off?  Terms of employment or discrimination?

Free speech applies to the Federal government not companies.  If you sign a contract that you will not speak about certain things and you violate that contract the 1st amendment will not protect you.  Lots of companies have 'morality' clauses in their terms of employment.

Personally I think some of the GLAAD folks i have heard speak are zealots, along with folks from PETA and various other organizations who basic principles I support.  It is no secret that I support 100% equality for all people, not just homosexuals.  I am a huge animal lover.  That does not mean I support all the groups who advocate for gays or animals.

The family is out with a statement...

We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate.We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right. We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.
Reading between the lines, the show is done on A&E, and unless A&E decides to sit on the distribution rights, you'll see a replacement show coming to Discovery, AMC, or another network which doesn't have the same fear of GLAAD.

Perhaps Tree is to myopic to see that terrorism doesn't need to always involve violence. Fear is an equally useful tactic, and economic injury vs. physical injury can be just as damaging.

Just look at how Alec Baldwin or Martin Bashir were treated compared to Phil Robertson and Paula Deen. Special interests didn't bring down Alec or Martin -- it took weeks of pointing out the hypocrisy for the networks to act...

The presumably last season of Duck Dynasty due to air next month is already taped, and if they air it with Phil in it, then A&E will be pointed out to be the hypocrites that they are. If they try to edit him out, they'll be shunned by the viewers.

Either way, look for the family's supporters to start a very active campaign at the show's largest advertisers - Bass Pro and Walmart. Those two chains can't live without business from Bible thumpers, and I suspect A&E will have a hard time replacing the revenue.

Dumb, dumb, dumb vs happy, happy, happy.

Bashir worked for CNN and made the comments on the air on CNN.  His comments were no more protected speech than Roberts.  The out comes are determined by the employer and have nothig to do with protected rights.

A+E could have really jumped on this one and capitalized. The CEO could have come with a statement pointing out the diversity in the network programming. Saying something like "while we do not condone or support the statements and beliefs of Mr. Robertson, we at A&E certainly recognize that he and the the family has their own closely held, personal religious views. We support their right to share them in outside the workplace."

Or something similar.

I'm sure you meant to say Bashir worked for MSNBC and made comments that got him fired while on the job. His words were protected under the COTUS. Saying that someone should sh!t in Palin's mouth is not what most logical, reasonable people expect from a professional journalist. The outrage over the comments came from members of both parties (not withstanding 700's approval). Coupled with very low ratings and viewership, the comments were reason enough to fire him.

But that got some people to wondering: Where was this outrage from GLAAD after Alec Baldwin was caught — repeatedlyusing gay slurs?
