Does this development portend the end of US and The Star Alliance?

In one of the forums, someone mentioned that the reason US Airways chose not to participate in the Antitrust Immunity was complicated; sounded like they had some background on the reason. Is anyone able to share what they know about why the decision was made?

Also, always wondered why US has not signed code-share deals with Air Canada. Seems like there would be some pretty decent opportunities there for both sides.

Remember back in early 90's when US Air announced a big marketing agreement with AC?
It was never consummated.

With the (seasonal) OSL and ARN flights, it's too bad that no codeshare has been worked out with SK either.

About the same time they announced a code sharing agreement with LH that was not consumated at the time. They also announced a code sharing agreement with Olympic that never came to life either. The Singapore codeshare took so long to get started, left a lot of us wondering if they had changed their minds.

Could US have insisted on participating as a condition of approving CO joining STAR?
I guess anything is possible. Not sure how wise it would have been to give too many ultimatums - US got 5 years of guaranteed *A membership for their yes vote as it was.
