Southwest is starting its Denver campain to win passenger affection.

Southwest has also sought to ingratiate itself with Denver by becoming part of the local community. Earlier this month it sponsored the Parade of Lights and entered a float in the holiday parade, and marketing employees were flown into town to hand out free fleece hats and peanuts to passers-by.

"We want to be a part of this community," said promotions manager Derek Kuester from Dallas. "We want to get to know people."

DEN is a risk for SWA, so I would expect that they will spend a fair amount of money in advertising to get DEN off the ground. just my thoughts..........

Turner says "We like to be known as the hometown airline, and I know that's funny in Denver, because Frontier is Denver- based."

Pretty bold statement from a PR perspective for an airline that is only flying 13 flights a day to 4 cities. How many cities does SWA claim to be their Hometown airline??? Hell you got a major foot hold in LA and can't claim that fame. United or AA have you beat in that city for that claim.

And even in your own hometown I do beleive that AA is still the METRO PLEXS hometown airline???? And even with all your flights into Midway your still not Chicago's Hometown airline. As the Coolflyingfool says Denver is a BIG risk for SWA. They just needed a place to fly 16 aircraft that they couldn't fly into MSY and the south anymore.

So when your here and finally have an employee base of almost 5K+ and serving 49 destination from Denver then MAYBE you can claim that fame. United can't even claim that they are DENVERS HOMETOWN airline  ! Frontier One had that claim for years and Frontier Two will continue to claim that fame FOREVER.

Rhino,

I know your being a smart A$$ LOL. F9 will not put SWA out of business and you know that. But they won't put Frontier out of business either. No one disputes that SWA isn't a great company, but so is Frontier. 13 flights a day to 4 cities and this PR REP thinks that SWA can already claim the fame as a HOMETOWN AIRLINE. She's dreaming, SWA will only have 40 employees here. I am sure theie flight schedule will grow some here, but it will NEVER be to 49 (and counting) destinations in the USA and abroad.

What SWA is really doing with the 16 planes they can't fly to MSY anymore is utilizing them to take up ATA's slack here when they quit serving DIA period!

Why don't you read the article. Nowhere in it does it say that SWA wants to be the "Hometown airline". What it does say is that SWA wants to be part of the community. This is what any good corporate citizen should do, be a part of the community. SWA supports the Ronald McDonald house, and enters local parades in many cities that they fly from. Why should Denver be any different?

Tanker,

Here is her quote, you need to read all the article!

Turner promised more Southwest sightings in the near future.

"We will be looking for some other big events to be a part of," she said. "We like to be known as the hometown airline, and I know that's funny in Denver, because Frontier is Denver- based."

So MR FISH, if I understand you correctly, F9 will never be more than Denver's hometown airline. This is because they don't have more than 6 flights in any other city except Denver. Southwest's smallest station has 6 flights. Southwest has 8 cities with more than 110 flights a day. Southwest's largest station, LAS, was a battleground 4 years ago with National II. Both National AND America West were calling themselves the hometown airline, but never SW. I say it is called marketing. So get over it. SW is just trying to put some heart-felt, warm marketing spin on their opening. And lastly, judging by the DIA announcement of 2 more gates in DEN C concourse, I think SWA will have 5 or 6 gates in DEN by the end of 2006. just my thoughts............

Don't demoralize Fishy. He's on his way to GLOBAL DOMINATION. F9 is invinceable and immune to the threats that challenge all other carriers. Apparently they don't drug test, either.

Nope UniTED isn't Denvers hometown airline!

Golly, Wally...looks like by your measure, UA sure IS Denver's hometown airline!!! By more than a factor of 2.2 to 1!! UA serves 115 cities according to the DIA website and F9 only serves 52. Gets even worse when you look at departures...400 to 154 respectively.

And to think that F9 makes the false statement that they are the hometown airline!! If only the public knew of this scam!!! You'd better pick up the fight for United, too, Mr Fish, as F9 seems to wrongfully represent themselves!!

All I can say Mr. Fish is: That you better have your resume up to date when Frontier shuts down in a couple of years. The only thing that will save Frontier is a merger with another airline. One hub equals only one target to destroy. That's what killed Frontier#1 and that's what is going to kill Frontier#2. Frontier is doomed and Mr. Fish will be on the unemployment line.

CH12,

It's not only the flights Ch12, its community involvement  . Which Frontier is more involved in the Denver community than United is? United just screw's the city of Denver every chance they get! And, that Frontier has charter contracts with every sports team in Denver, except the Broncos. And we fly all the universities to they're games, that is what makes you a Hometown Airline!

And Princess, you need to clear off your fogged up crystal ball. 13 flights a day to 4 cities is not the end of Frontier. As Ch12 pointed out UniTED has 115 flights a day and we survived them :p ! I really don’t see SWA flying 100’s of flights a day with the added $8 dollar cost PER PAX to fly out of Denver. And we don’t just use Denver for connecting flights. MANY of our Mexico flights go from other cities other than Denver. And I am sure that they have the same plans in the works for our expanded soon to be Canada flights. I can’t wait to start flights from cities like MCI, BNA, MCO, FFL, and DFW ECT ECT to a few Central American destinations to. Especially to San Jose Costa Rica were I’ll be retired in 3 years. Do I have that long OHHHHH MIGHTY Princess K??? God its SOOOOOO good to have future insight thanks!!!!!! What a PUTZZZZZZZZ!
