Deltas Cuts All flights to Israel

probably not a bad idea until things get under control.

the Middle East is and always will be a risky place for US carriers to do business.

LY has done a good job of keeping its aircraft safe in the midst of a perpetual war environment but it is always a risk and TLV is their home; it is a pretty small destination for US airlines.

hope it won't be long before it is safe to return.

Delta diverted a flight out of JFK with 273 passengers and 17 crew onboard to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Tuesday after reports of the rocket launch

I think at US they flight crews are all pay protected, what about DL's FAs since they are non-union?

I dont think it will be long, Kerry is in Eygpt trying to negotiate a truce, which needs to happen.

But I totally understand why Israel did what they have to do, no country would put up with missiles being launched at them.

According to flightaware, both UA 84 and UA 90 are showing still operating though late but still operating.  US and DL cancelled flights..

yes, DL FAs are pay protected in the event of a diversion.

And the aircraft might well be used as an extra section in a day from CDG anyway.

this is peak travel season.

Kerry won't do squat to solve the problem and it has nothing to do with Kerry.

Israel will protect itself. Air service has been interrupted before in Israel because of war.

If true then say your prayers for the two UA flights to get in and out safely - plus LY.

Kerry wont do squat?

You do realize Hillary and Morsai negotiated the last truce, so yes Kerry and Egypt and Qatar are all now involved in negotiating a truce.

It was on NPR this morning.

Hamas wants money and the Arab states are willing to bribe Hamas to stop the conflict.

And will you eat your words when a truce is negotiated with the help of Kerry?

And I am not talking about pay protection for a diversion, talking about pay protection for the canceled flights.

If the other Arab states can pay Hamas to stop shooting off rockets, then that is part of the solution.

Israel started the campaign to eliminate tunnels that Hamas was using between Gaza and Israel.

When Israel has accomplished what they needed to do to ensure their peace, then they will stop. They aren't agreeing to anything from anyone until they are safe.

My words and Kerry have nothing to do with it. Israel's perception of its own safety is what is at stake.

When you can show me that Israel stopped its campaign before ensuring its safety, then you have proved your point.

Other Arab states very well might tell Hamas to put a lid on it which will indeed provide Israel with the security it wants.

Israel should not stop until Hamas is completely eradicated.
Israel doesn't mind keeping them cornered and impotent and if they stop it will be because they have achieved that status.

that angle of the discussion is for the water cooler.

in the meantime, US airlines will sit on the sidelines until it is sorted out.

Given that this isn't the first time there has been an interruption of air service, the chances are decent some sort of truce will be announced.

Israel started it?

Um no, Hamas started it by firing hundreds of missiles into Israel.

according to cnn UA cancelled their flights but flightaware shows differ.   yes WT prayers that they make it out though Israel has guaranteed the safety.  buts its odd bec just last week Hamas  warned airlines in particular US carriers not to fly into TLV or risk having an attack

take that part of the discussion to the water cooler, 700.

I'm not taking sides other than to note that this has been going on since the creation of Israel as an independent state and for millennia before. The weapons have changed but the hostility is deep seated.

there are reportedly missiles reaching TLV - either the city or the airport. US carriers won't be flying there for a while.

robbed,
It wasn't a matter of whether UA would follow but where they were in the process.

The summer travel season from the US to Israel is likely toast.

We will see if carriers of other countries choose to follow US carriers. Considering the FAA advised US carriers about parts of Ukraine and US carriers had already acted where other carriers did not, the pressure will be on other airlines to respect the FAA's clear role in advising against air service to TLV for the time being.

DL does have a crew stuck in TLV, and I would certainly think US, and UA also too.
