Delta pilots move to block UAL merger...

"United Flight attendants, now getting 1985 pay levels, want more money"

That would be United, Northwest, USair, Delta. I would despute 1985! With the cost of inflation, it's more like 1980.

United's problem is it's BOD whom supports Tilton....JUST as it is at Northwest. (however, ours is greedy, but at least somewhat interested in running the airline)

The employees had better get aggressive in removing this man before United is buried. (a la Acker...Pan Am, pure poision)

Sorry, folks... I don't think you can just get rid of a board of directors, otherwise it would have been done.. Unfortunately that is the problem, the BOD and Tilton are in bed - just as most other places.. NHBB, I love the fact that you believe everything these analyst spouts.. Take a look at your companys profit margin.. LOL.. mmmhhmmmm .... We won't be buried and the man in charge won't be removed until we start making solid losses again, but hey, if we start posting losses gues what, so will AA DAL NWA and US... You are forgetting that UAL beat expectations last quarter, making more than any other US legacy and double AA profits.. The whole industry has a profit marging of 2-3 % not just UAL... I read an article on DAL the other day that said, DAL must do a deal b/c they aren't "doing as well as planned" and their estimated worth - value is only half of what was estimated.. LOL, now that took a genius to figure out... I love this board, you never know what these people are gonna come up with next... Lets see how this quarter goes, Delta 777, get ready b/c DAL is in play, as well as UAL.. NHBB, start stashing the cash - oil isn't going down as you predicted (go figure  ) I can see that retirement check getting smaller every day... I just love it how you seem to come back and say "well beauty, you were right this time" just love it...

Care to provide a link, or at least mention the name of the publication of the article you claimed to have read this in. Or was this another one of those voices in your head going off on one of its daily tangents?

Its using that fuzzy math again. Along with articles that don't exist. Interesting how DAL is in play, and yet the only airline pimping its self on wall street and up for bidding is UAL. Facts and reality seem foreign to dttb.

NHBB actually uses the writings of people smarter than himself, who actually study the industry for a living. You on the other hand seem to pull stuff fresh out of your rear, and claim it as fact.

I am also curious to know in what world would someones retirement check be tied to the price of oil?

Not quite:

NWA Profitability
Profit Margin (ttm): 14.78%
Operating Margin (ttm): 8.95%
NWA reported a pretax profit of $405 million for the third quarter
Northwest Airlines Corp. reported a $244 million profit (after taxes)

In fact Delta is not in play. United is the only one pimping its self out hoping to get lucky.

Indications are that UAL , the parent of United Airlines, remains open to the idea of a merger with another carrier, accord to a Business Week report. Saddled with one of the thinnest profit margins in the industry, Chicago-based UAL is exploring asset sales as well as spinning off Mileage Plus, its frequent-flier program, as a way of becoming more attractive as a prospective merger partner, the magazine reported in its Dec. 3 issue. Moreover, United's on record as saying it plans to rely on its existing fleet of 460 jets until 2015 or 2016 -- at a time when rival carriers have been busy placing orders for new aircraft. One potential merger candidate, Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL:
delta air lines shot down talk of doing a deal with UAL earlier this month, but investors and analysts remain of the view that Delta's the most logical choice for UAL and Chief Executive Glenn Tilton, followed by U.S. Airways Group. Tilton wasn't available for comment, Business Week reported. End of Story

This girl is just too much fun!

A troll but you've got to admire how she's learned the company song!

"Solid losses again"

:mf_boff:

I've got the utmost respect for the employees at DAL, AMR and NWA (except the scabs....). This back and forth is just comical. Does Glen WANT consolidation? YES. Truth is, you should to. It ain't about layoffs and cutbacks, it's about reducing the number of airlines so that ticket pricing can rationalize. If it's done correctly, it would actually INCREASE the number of mainline jobs. Cities with 20 RJ flights flown by 5 differant companies would end up with 12 mainline flights flown by 3 companies. But since we're sitting here comparing gonad size, I figured a few numbers should be included in the "you are months away from BK" and "didn't do enough in BK" BS peddled by a few incompetent so called "analyst" who only get a phone call when a lazy financial reporter is looking for some silly, outlandish tag lines to attract readership.

The most recent numbers are the most relevant:
3q 2007
Company.........Revenue..........Pre-tax Profit......Net interest expense
United...............$5.5 Bill..........$498 Mill.............$90 mill
Delta.................$5.2 Bill...........$363 Mill............$90 mill
American...........$6.0 Bill...........$175 Mill............$137 mill

So by what measure is UAL about to go under?
If UAL has SO MUCH MORE debt than DAL or AMR, then why is the interest expense at UAL roughly equal to DAL and substantially lower than AMR?
If UAL is selling MP, then who would buy it if UAL's plan was to sell itself off in pieces, thereby giving MP members no airline on which to USE the miles?

THINK PEOPLE!!

He posted numbers and they tell a limited story. What is the UAL debt load VS AA or anyone else. You need other numbers to be able to draw a proper comparison and conclusion.

So what are those "other numbers"? do you know them or are just merely trusting some idiot "analyst"?
Debt isn't always a bad thing. If you can borrow money at 7% and get a return on that money of 10%, then it is SMART to carry that debt. But again, if UAL is such a huge credit risk (since some shmuck "analyst" says so...), AND UAL has much more debt than everyone else, THEN WHY AREN'T WE PAYING MORE INTEREST? Be careful when people speak of "debt", it's very easy to include various operating items in that total if you are pushing an agenda. Lets say you lease a jet for 20 years and pay $100,000 a month for it (that you MUST pay). Is that differant than buying the SAME jet and making payments of $100,000 a month for 20 years? Which one is "debt"?

Spin Spin Spin... Gotta love it.. Limited story, whats the story?? I am sure in your head there are many... Unfortunately, about the only thing you know how to do is stand on the sidelines and call names... That should get you far in life... Hey FAMikey, the holiday sure is nice, with the family... Too bad you didn't have it off since your first year, I love it... Hey, don't hate me b/c I have what you want and I don't even need it.. LOL

Generally both, in the airline biz....

Jim

Depends on the TYPE of lease ;) . Generally, a capital lease is considered a loan, and an operating lease....not so much. Different line on the income statement. That's what makes the business so much fun. It's SO easy to make things appear differently than they really are.

Hey, don't hate me b/c I have what you want and I don't even need it.. LOL

Does that mean that she has the time off but doesn't need it because no one wants to spend the holiday with her anyway? Or, did she get past probation and United didn't want to alienate anymore passengers and crew so they gave her WOP to keep her away from ruining their holiday? So many questions.

Hi Busdrvr. Thanks for the numbers. Those should keep our autistic stew busy for weeks. :stupid:
