Does anyone know the delivery schedule for the new airplanes in 2013? I have heard US is slated to begin service to Istanbul and start PHX-LGW as well as upgrade the Athens flight to A330 flying.

Well I guess you heard more than what others have heard, lol.

US Airways plans to take delivery of 12 A320 family aircraft in each of 2011 and 2012, with the remaining 46 A320 family aircraft scheduled to be delivered between 2013 and 2015. In addition, US Airways plans to take delivery of the eight remaining A330-200 aircraft in 2013 and 2014. Deliveries of the 22 A350 XWB aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2017 and extend through 2019. US Airways has financing commitments for all Airbus aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2011 and 2012.

I believe its 5 A330s next year and 3 in 2014.

Thanks for the info 700UW. I really like the A330-200, it is a nice comfortable plane and a pleasure to work on. I thought the A350s were to be delivered sooner.

Why would US fly to IST? Not a fair fight w/ TK. Sort of like if Doug decided to take on EK to DXB.

Good thread though. What did happen to that huge Airbus order that US kept reconfiguring and re-announcing w/ great fanfare?

Btw the 777 is far superior to any A330. Just saying.

The A350 is behind schedule and the first plane isnt even built yet, its a work in progress.

No one in their right mind would take USAir PHX-LGW when BA operates the route to LHR-the preferred London business airport unless I suppose you are a non-rev

BA pulled out against US in CLT and couldnt compete, CLT-LGW does very well. And PHX-LGW would probably be more leisure than business. And if I remember correctly, BA has flown to PHX before, pulled out and reinstated service.

BA is a great airline, gave up flying AA 757s to LHR and now take BA. If only BA 238 had a N.F. equipped 777 more often it would be perfect. You've really gotta admire BALPA for encouraging their members to fill in for striking cabin crew during the 2010 industrial action. Through the use of pilot and management trained replacements, the entire LHR long haul operation was largely unscathed and wet leased aircraft filled in for shorthaul operations at LGW.

Yeah, really gotta give them a hand for scabbing. You always post inflammatory statements trying to get 700 to bite. One really has to wonder if you truly are that stupid.

I believe he is, must have a serious case of union envy. Maybe I should report his post to the mods as he is trying to flamebait and is way off topic!

Because TK is a strong member of *A and would provide connecting opportunities at IST - US already has a code share agreement with TK, which would be modified to add a US PHL-IST non-stop. PHL-IST was mentioned as a route under consideration by either Parker or Kirby (I forget which) at one of the analyst conferences a few years ago. Then when the recession hit and US pushed out a lot of 332 deliveries, route expansion evaporated - except for TLV. Other than TK, the only other *A U.S. - IST non-stop airline is a single CO (UA) flight out of EWR. A PHL-IST service would likely be largely connecting passengers from Southern California and siphoning from TK/CO(UA) in NJ/NYC - where the largest Turkish communities are concentrated. I'd speculate a lot of cargo potential, via PHL, may also be available to/from IST. In a standalone mode, IMO, U.S. will need to expand its network globally or cease to exist - cause that's where the profits are.

Btw the A330-200 is far superior to the 777-200/200ER and the A330-300 (excluding the current US Airways in-house versions) is far superior to the 777-300. Just saying.

In what way are they superior? Range? Fuel economy? Useful lifespan? Acquistion cost? Total cost of ownership?

In any event, when US takes over AA, the combined airline will have 57 B777s on the property. Superior as those A330s may be, there will be a lot of 777s that won't be going anywhere for 20+ years.

DL has 777 and 330's correct? I don't see them trying to unload them in favor of more 777's.

Thats because they inherited them from NW and they fit their needs, but you dont see them buying new ones, yet they are getting some 777 still.

And DL did unload all their A310s they got from PA.
