Of the top 10 markets from DCA (based on enplaned passengers), we serve 3 with daily mainline service - BOS/LGA with the Shuttle and CLT. Of the top 10 markets, 2 - BOS & LGA - have seen traffic declines (9.9% & 1.5 respectively) since 2003.

That's got to be about a $100 difference between the E-190 and the A319. Just another reason to put 190's on some of the off-time/day shuttle routes when we get enough.$4.20 per 1000lbs is alot of money.
Maybe we should start a "CLT expansion plans" thread! 🙂Concourse E can be expanded......
........Longer term the airport has ambitious plans a new runway and expanded terminal space. Here is what it looks like:
Well said Flying Titan!Back to DCA for a moment.
If US needs to draw down DCA due to too much competition, then it's in for some long-term trouble. DCA is a solid business-preferred O&D airport for those who live in DC and those who come there from most of the country. US has a guaranteed position that can't be encroached upon by other carriers in any big way due to slot and terminal space restrictions. If US can't figure out how to make it work, then these guys in Tempe are doing something wrong. As an earlier poster said, the problem with run-and-hide is that it's only temporary.
If some of the traditional DCA routes are slowing down, then market them! Promote them! Help them grow. Don't just back away.
