DCA rumors

It's still there - just not connected to D-con anymore. All that'll eventually be left are the two fingers at the end of the current E-con.

FWIW, they're grading on the north side of the current E-con to start the expansion.

What will they do with concourse E in that pic?

Part of it will be removed. So that a more linear connector will be put in its place, looks like a tunnel.

That said if anyone has ever looked closely at the contruction of the connector between D and E it is very narrow and this is becasue the same company who designed it also designed the full build out which as you can see uses the larger portions of the current structure.

Of the top 10 markets from DCA (based on enplaned passengers), we serve 3 with daily mainline service - BOS/LGA with the Shuttle and CLT. Of the top 10 markets, 2 - BOS & LGA - have seen traffic declines (9.9% & 1.5 respectively) since 2003.

Looks like Logan is going to raise it's landing fees (and other airport fees)by 8%. A seond such increase in landing fees during the last 6-months. $4.20 per 1000lbs is alot of money. The remainder of the article is also interesting (and expensive to the airlines).

That's got to be about a $100 difference between the E-190 and the A319. Just another reason to put 190's on some of the off-time/day shuttle routes when we get enough.

Concourse E can be expanded......
........Longer term the airport has ambitious plans a new runway and expanded terminal space. Here is what it looks like:
Maybe we should start a "CLT expansion plans" thread! 🙂

I wonder what the min conx time will be. I can't to try for a tight connex from the then of expanded B-con to the end of expanded "E". I don't suppose a peoplemover is the works?

Back to DCA for a moment.

If US needs to draw down DCA due to too much competition, then it's in for some long-term trouble. DCA is a solid business-preferred O&D airport for those who live in DC and those who come there from most of the country. US has a guaranteed position that can't be encroached upon by other carriers in any big way due to slot and terminal space restrictions. If US can't figure out how to make it work, then these guys in Tempe are doing something wrong. As an earlier poster said, the problem with run-and-hide is that it's only temporary.

If some of the traditional DCA routes are slowing down, then market them! Promote them! Help them grow. Don't just back away.
