CWA Update

First of all CWA union dues is based on your rate of pay. It's a percentage of your pay. At first it might take the whole $.40 but as you climb up the ladder it will seem less.
My question---guess what's coming??? What about the RETIRED employees from U now working for HP?? Will I get my seniority and pay back???
CWA dues are lowest in the airline industry.CWA membership dues are equal to only 1.3% of base wages per month, so part-timers dues are lower based on the hours they work. Compared to what we’ve gain. It’s a smart investment. Membership dues support the resources we need for effective representation. (Legal, economic research, professional staff to negotiation ect.)

This is a win for CWA/IBT US especially US/WEST-HP.Every thing has a price when you negotiate. At this time in the industry it is hard to get a $5.00+ hr raise and CWA did for US/WEST. US/EAST not so much

And yet we're also ALL waiting to hear what will happen with our sick days, vacation time, floating holidays...I won't be making what you're making until the END of 2007, that's two years working side by side for still less pay and now we're losing what two better beneies we had??? Better not for two years...

I wish I had gotten my 5 weeks vacation and 2 weeks holydays and 12 paid 100% sick day a year back company contribution of 10% to by 401k The Company match of 2% to my 401k. But there is only so much CWA could negotiate.

And wish I could have gotten my 6 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of holiday (option 2), my 10 100% paid sick days, pension , I guess that's all I lost. After so many take backs in 19 years, one seems to forget or maybe that is old age kicking in.

NO ONE on the West side HAS 6 weeks of vacation to lose...The most we get is four anyway. THose of us who have been around several years are looking at losing a week, there are some looking at losing two weeks...It may sound trite to those of you already on the East payscale, but give those of us on the West a bone for the next two years huh? We'll still be making less money until December of 2007.
Either that or it'd be nice to get an answer from SOMEONE in the union who's been talking with the company about whether or not this has even come up in talks yet. There are a LOT of us on the West side of Pax Service that wondering the same thing. (And believe it or not, harbor no ill will towards our East counterparts, we just want SOMETHING out of it until pay parity happens. KWIM?)

I have spoken with several union stewards about changes to both vacation and sick days. At this time, there are no changes and they have yet to be negotiated. As soon as they are negotiated we will have an answer and I am trying to stay on top of everything. Too many employees are in the dark and we need to get the word out. Its stay tuned but due to how negative the outsourcing is effecting DOT complaints I would hoing they will be fair. Lets stay positive! Hopefully, agents will be grandfathered in under old vaction if the new will have a negative impact.

Was it 6 weeks vacation after 25 years??? and we had 12 sick days a years 1 a month

Why are you losing two weeks?

There was only so much $$$ the company was willing to negotiate $5.00+++ an HR is big in any union negotiation. US/ESAT side got the 1.00 hr raises top of scale we were supposed to get January 2007. snap up to $18 per hour top rate from the current $17.00. End the pay step freeze for US Airways agents effective this coming April 1, 2006 plus the new paid scale (negotiated January 2006) was a big reduction. We got a week of vacation and lost 5 days of straight-time pay not a big win for US/EAST.

As stated in the 2005 contract with CWA and since there are retired U employees working in HP doing the same job they did at U and they are losing their retirement checks, will they then as stated in the contract, get their seniority and pay back?? Please answer asap. Thanks

What you need to do is contact your local union steward on site and address your questions to them. They will contact the negotiating committee for answers. I am not working much this week due to vacation but if I see someone I will ask your question. Hang tight as right now there are still alot of unanswered questions. Thanx for all that you do. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the Merry Christmas. My union steward refuses to ask the question. Please ask if you get a chance. I love it here but would be great to get more vacation and pay.

Also, what are the "dues"

I am topped out. When I was part time, dues were about $11.06 every two weeks. Now that I am full time, dues are $17.65 every two weeks.

The Payscale is current

It almost seems a wash on the holiday/vacation issue, but I'd still rather get paid and be off another week of my choosing than to get paid extra for the holiday. Its easier to pick up hours than to try to get them off for another week of vacation.

I am on a conference call on Friday and I will relay all info I get!

HEY KAO....So, did you ever get on that conference call? Find out any answers for us? Guess we'll have to try emailing our unions for answers, as even talking to stewards they still don't know everything we are asking. I just think it interesting that HP cust serv agents are suddenly "under CWA contract." We didn't vote on that contract. How is this a legal option? No choice to vote? I did have someone tell me this was the only way to get us raises quickly. They sd the company wntd to wait till 2 years after completion of the merger! That would've put us at 2009!! So, I'm not complaining, just wondering how this can be done legally without a vote? Well all...have a great week!

I was on the call and I apologize...have been busy with xmas parties and anniversary parties and..plain parties!!! LOL...let me see if I can get this right as it is confusing...I asked the same qqq's...why did we not get a say in what just occurred...the IBT believed that we would seriously be taking a chance by not forming the now approved alliance...meaning with all the 4000 plus US employee's on furlough and no way of getting addresses we could have been back to a new representation campaign-time consuming-and possibly even back to square one with no representation. To me...they have done the fastest thing by taking the CWA contract...yes, there are some bad things in there but there is a lot of good and they will be negotiating in the very, very near future the HP hot topics...vaca/holidays/sick time/trades....and of course, seniority. One interesting thing was that they said that the company was all for DOH integration along with CWA but the IBT held firm and said let's talk some more to find a fair and equitable way....we are no longer "at will" employee's and that makes me happy! It is important now to send all your concerns to your steward or negotiator for your region as they will be meeting very soon....I too have not heard from my regional negotiator too much but...I find more info out on my own...I guess I would have been happy even if the person had emailed to say-I have no new news or that they were unable to discuss anything"...we did not even get that...I was not really for the association but I have to support it now because it is what it is and I see the pay increases as a start...please PM me if you want...I will try to anser questions...I am still figuring things out...reading the contract and the many amendments slowly...as is the IBT....

I was told by a steward that the "snapback" clause will also come into play in our raises. Does anyone understand what exactly this means? I believe the payscale link at CWA is the DEC 2004 amended contract. So, if that is the case, where does the snapback go to? One question you said you would try to ask is if the "premium" for specialty desks is still in tact? I called a teamster negotiater but he couldnt tell me the answer to that one either. Any help here would be appreciated.
