Choice seating

Good Afternoon. Thank you for calling Nickle and Dime Airlines.

Please have your credit card ready because there are a number of fees and service charges you will be required to pay.

Now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how may I help you?
Word from the Sea Shell Lounge is that the 800-428-4322 reservations number will be replaced by a pay-per-call number: 1-900-US-SUCKS.

Hmmm...given the speculation on a US/UA merger, this could be a step towards an Economy Plus product for US customers. Get the US customers accustomed to "preimum" economy seats, and then reconfigure aircraft to implement the successful UA economy plus product?

One flaw in that logic. You're assuming UA management takes over. If Tempe takes over, E+ is history as they put more seats in to maximize revenue.

Touche! One prays, hopes, and calls Madame Chloe that if this merger comes to fruition, it is mostly UA management, but replacing Tilton and Parker with oh, say, Bethune!

We were told in a memo to flight attendants today that if we must move a "choice seating" passenger to offer them a complimentary drink. So they assume that if they are inconvenienced after paying they should be a drunk too?

Do the yahoos in Tempe even think about this stuff before they do it?

Let's see - I just paid $15 for my "Choice" seat when I checked in on the web - which now that I'm on the plane I am no longer sitting in because the FA had to move me for some reason -

but I get a "complimentary" drink - which would have only cost me $5 had I just paid for it during the flight. Now there is a good deal!

Just when you think Dougie and his brain trust can't do anything more stupid than what they have already done they surprise you!

At least they are good for a laugh from time to time.

I know Tempe is all about cramming seats into airplanes but if they would just understand that people would PAY to sit in an "economy plus" type seating. I understand wanting to pay and secure a window or an aisle seat but the company could do better.

If you paid for a choice seat and they ask you to move, just say no. Simple as that.
I just randomly picked a flight in June and there were 7 "choice seats" left on it if no other Preferred books and chooses a "choice seat". For any of you who arent Preferred and HAVE to purchase a "choice seat" because thats all thats left for checkin 24 hours ahead of time, I'd suggest you also buy a lottery ticket for that week. IOW, I just dont get the obsession with this from some of you other than you like to stir the s(*t. Dont pay for it if its not for you, but there are some people out there that will. Just like many of you were having hissy fits about them selling status and it was ridiculous to offer since it wasnt worth it (to you), well I have had people tell me they bought it and WERE THRILLED to be able to. I had a customer tell me he paid $850 to get it for this year since he didnt requalify for status and he thought it was worth it. So, "choice seats" might not be for you, but there are some people out there that will jump at the chance to get one of those front aisle/window seats if they can. (And it wont be ma and pa kettle cause they cant web checkin cause they dont have a computer.) :p

Beginning on 4/18/08, US Airways is proud to offer the newest cutting edge premium services - Overhead Sleeper Units, Standing Fares and Cabin Cleaner Discount Fares. The overhead bins have been converted into comfortable beds. Customers who have not chosen to check their bags will be required to place them underneath the seat in front of them, or hold them for the entire flight.

Handles have been installed throughout the aisle area, and we are proud to offer "Standing Fares". For only $50, US Airways will begin allowing passengers willing to stand in the aisles for the entire flight. this exciting new bonus product will be offered to standby customers. Standing Fares also include a complimentary beverage, and priority zone 1 boarding. Standing Fares customers are required to assist in the beverage service.

Passengers willing to stay onboard after the deplaning process and assist the flight attendants in the cleaning of the aircraft will receive a $5 coupon towards their next US Airways Flight. These passengers will receive a complimentary set of plastic aviator wings, and can easily be identified by the bright orange smiley face stickers they are wearing on their foreheads.

Just kidding :)

Taking into account the 8% number they used to determine the total percentage of seats being "Choice Seats" it's actually a small number per airplane, if it is indeed 8% per plane.

This is what the number of choice seats would be, assuming it's done by full row
319/300 East 114Y - 9 seats 1.5 rows
320 138Y - 11 seats 2 rows
321 164Y - 13 seats 2.5 rows
400 132Y - 11 seats 2 rows
757 East 8 F 185Y - 14 seats 2.5 rows
757 East 12F 167Y - 14 seats 2.5 rows
767 179Y - 14 seats 2 rows
190 88Y - 7 seats 2 rows
175/170 - 6 seats 1.5 rows
CRJ/ERJ - 4 seats 1 row

But throw out the Center seat. I don't think that is taken in for this.

I just dont get the obsession with this from some of you

tadjr......."the obsession" is the complete fracking stupidity of your management.

Choice Seats? Where are those on any US plane? Find it for me please. Exit row? Bulk head row? Try NO ROW. They are all the same. If you think that sitting in a row that can't recline....aka exit is Choice or bulk head who's tray table makes the seat width actually more narrow is Choice then you haven't had to sit in those seats on a transcontinental flight.

Let's face it Doug and crew are using any stupid idea to bring money into another sinking ship. NONE of their so called improvements to this airline have truly caused your customers to want to flock to US. Instead they continue to drive away the paying customer.

BTW........let me bring up one of their other previous mistakes..........the elimination of the 500 minimum frequent flyer miles. Have you heard of any other airline matching this? The answer is NO. No other airline has decided to PISS of their customers. Makes you wonder why US continues to?

While no fan of nickel and diming the customer as US loves to do, other carriers are doing it as well. Just as the case with the $25.00 second bag policy. HOLY hell broke out over it because US imposed this. Not much as a blip has sprung out at other airlines adopting the policy. This new choice seating though viewed as stupid seems to be a big deal for some. If I thought it were stupid I wouldn't pay for it but risk the middle seat. The company knows I'm sure that not everyone will pay for this BUT they know many WILL. I don't agree that we have a "choice" seat on our airplanes as you give scalp massages to most in front of you but I guess it's a "choice" to risk the middle seat or not. It's not over yet. More nickel and diming to come. ;)
