Robbed DL is nothing world class-make no mistake. But at least DL provides things like in-seat power, in-flight entertainment (on the domestic fleet) and consistent customer service things that aren't concepts at USAIR.

if DL is not world class, then there are no world class airlines in the US.

passing out warm nuts on a domestic flight hardly a world class airline makes.

AA is not world class either. World class to me is the likes of CX, LH (F), LX, NH, SQ

Agreed but when you look at how the service is delivered DL-or any US carrier for that matter fall short. Overall it's just a less polished and sophisticated experience. For example, AA serves Dewars Scotch in int'l FC CX and LH serve Blue Label. DL serves wines in BE that can be had at your local TJ's for $15.

And they fired some management and administrative employees
And, I know a number of PMAA people here in Dallas that "were not retained in the new organization."  Unfortunately, it happens in every merger.  There are duplicate jobs on each side of the house.  Some people have to go.  Quite frankly, I'm surprised that there has been no noise regarding a f/a furlough.  The reserves are not being flown anywhere near their guarantees from what I'm told.  (Strictly, gossip.  I hope it's not true.)  But, we keep hiring new f/as every day it seems like.

and yet DL is one of the most profitable airlines in the world and AA made far more than any of those other carriers.

Airlines are businesses and create products and services for which they can make money. The SOLE reason why the Asian carriers have the service standards they do is because that is what they have to do win the business. Their markets are a whole lot smaller and they have neighbors who compete very aggressively for passengers with high levels of service.

and yet DL and UA are far larger than most of those Asian carriers across the Pacific - COMBINED.

World class is not defined by the amount that is spent on wine or the age of the FAs.

or at least if you use that definition, there are a whole lot of other factors that weigh just as highly and ultimately have more connection with what nearly all airlines in the world exist to do - which is to make money.

I would have a hard time believing they would be hiring if they intend to furlough but there simply have not been enough people leave the new AA since the merger to justify the level of service AA has and the rates of hiring that are taking place.

Well if that's the criteria pretty sure that would go to Copa or Spirit. And having flown CM J/Clase Ejecutiva numerous times their offerings are superior to DL in the Latin markets they compete.

Josh

no, Copa or Spirit are nowhere near as profitable. They might pull down decent margins but they are small, niche players.

DL in Latin America is still far larger than those carriers as well, in part because they, like AA and UA, offer a whole NETWORK and not just routes to ONE hub.

And I can assure you that the penetration of Spirit into the true business traveler market is miniscule.

Once again added a second LHR flight no doubt lis and bru were going to get cut added when us was connecting its hub to other star alliance members

If clt is so bad they would be shutting the hub there is no reason someone from RIC, ODF, gSP, etc is going to fly to Mia to go to Europe

The role your beloved CLT plays in the combined netwotk will be different than it did for a standalone USAIR. I predict in five years (possibly sooner) there will be fewer CLT based employees and operations than today.
