CANADA, AYE!

No official word yet but the last I heard...
planned for 4th Quarter 2010.

Looks like the WestJet plane is taxiing down the runway without WN.

Southwest's long-anticipated passenger-sharing partnership with Canadian low-cost giant WestJet may be history ... or at least delayed. The National Post of Toronto reports WestJet is ready to downgrade its previously announced pact with Southwest in favor of one with Delta, the USA's largest carrier.

Instead of just dumping SW in favor of DL, Westjet could go the Alaska Air model and code-share with a number of airlines. Keep in mind that Westjet, in addition to SW, has been talking about code-sharing with AF-KL, BA, and China Airlines. Afterall, Gregg Saretsky was in Alaska Air marketing before coming to Westjet.

I noticed that their new res system is called SabreSonic. I'll make a wild leap of faith and guess that this is a "new, improved, lemon-scented, borax-strengthened" version of Sabre. I wonder if they even talked with AA about codesharing? The proximity of major Canadian population centers to ORD and LGA/JFK would certainly facilitate an alliance.

Even more, I wonder if they talked with AA and AA passed on the chance to codeshare?
