ATL and CLT

They pad the schedule out of PHL pretty much. Since when does it take 5 Hrs 50 min. to Fly to LAS. If they happen to leave on time they just fly slower then to land near ontime, while the US flight that departs at the same time is already there in LAS for over 45 minutes already. I see flights that go to the same place, a WN flight to LAX took off at 7:15pm and a UA plane going to LAX took off at 7:35pm. The UA plane arrived in LAX about 15-20 minutes before the WN jet. I always like traveling East anyway.
seems to me padding the schedule would be the intelligent choice. The plane are essentially running ontime and does not affect the rest of the system. Ultimalty we are making money and thats all that needs to be said.

GSP is a terrible idea. It's a redneck town; so what if it's halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte? ATL and CLT have competitive fares as it is, and no one is going to drive two hours to GSP to catch a flight.
Once you see the fares in CLT creeping up, the rush to GSO and RDU will be on...CLT lost a sh!t load of traffic to those two cites for quite a long time, when U adjusted their fares you saw a big difference in local boardings.

IMHO, the problem WN faces in CLT is gates - assuming they would want more than 1. The only place that there are multiple adjacent gates available is the north side of D-con, and those are common use and all in use at various times of the day (though not continuously). Getting exclusive use of them might be a problem (though I'm sure WN would have been happy to pick up some A/B/C-con gates if the DL/US merger had gone through).

Plus the north side of D-con is a bad location when the airport is operating to the north - traffic around the end of D becomes one-way if any airplane is parked on the end resulting in waits to get to/from the gate.

The long-range plan in CLT is to build a new international concourse and an extension to B-con. That would solve the problem but it's not going to happen soon.

I do not believe WN ever served ATL. I believe you are thinking B6. B6 served ATL when they 1st started up but withdrew quick.
Wn was reported to be behind the lenghting of Brisco Field back in the 80's. Due to political pressure the charter for the airport was amended to prohibit schedualed service.

The city of CLT is building 25 new gates on the E-Con as we speak. These will be city controlled gates that are designed to hold 737's......need I say more.

The big change in GSO was the loss of Air Tran service. When FL started service to CLT you saw fares drop in CLT, enplanements go up, the loss of the CLT-GSO shuttle van service, etc....

If you get a chance to see the master plan for E Con you will shake your head....It is going to run north almost to the railroad tracks, turn east, then turn back south, and then turn back west...I was up in engineering looking at it and the only thing I can say is, it is like putting 5 pounds of poop in a two pound bag...As of last week the final gate count is going to be 47.

And You Don't see Southwest in MIA or DFW!
Give it some time. There business model was to serve secondary airports under the radar of the big boys and continue to expand, hiring low cost employees. There by spreading their cost. Now that they have some market clout and they have just about blanketed the US they are finding that they have to go head to head with the Legacy carriers just to bring in more revenue. As their costs continue to climb they will continue to move into markets served by the legacy carriers, which allows them to keep hiring those low cost employees to subsidized the more senior ones. MIA is surly on their radar screen, DFW is another story.

But you could be making a lot more money if they didn't pad the schedule so much. Think of the additional profit sharing you would get. That extra "pad" adds up to a lot of money coming right out of your pocket

I think WN is giving up with the On Time Ratings. 1st PHL, SFO coming. I guess DEN isn't as bad as old days.

Rednecks don't spend money on airline tickets. That's for booze, pickup trucks and titty bars.
I guess you aren't familiar with Greenvile/Spartanburg area industry, aside from being the textile capital of the US, and one of the headquarters of Fluor Daniel Construction as well as several food manufacturing companies like Shedd and Duke,it is headquarters to many US operations of foreign companies, including Michelin and their subsidiaries and their test track is located there at the old Donaldson AFB. Also, as mentioned incorrectly as Mercedes, the BMW assembly and Zentrum delivery center is there, as well as a test facility. Not to mention suppliers such as Bosch North America in Anderson etc. There is plenty of reason and travelers that would fly out of GSP as well as easy access to I-85, from CAE to CLT and yes, ATL. BHM gets a bit of business from ATL flyers, and it's about 100 miles west of ATL on I-20

Yes...I suppose it's better to have your company dump your pension plan than it is to pad the schedule a little bit. If padding the schedule means than downline delays are reduced, isn't that putting MORE money in their pockets?
