I heard through my FEDEX buddy that the MD-11 was landing last weekend in Memphis and it scraped the tail. Apparently, the plane is pretty badly damaged, may be a total loss. I am sure we'll see something from the NTSB in the coming months.

In happier times Piedmont/USAir were the launch customers for the 300/400 series.

What we find ourselves with today is the oldest 737 fleet type on the planet. Not to mention a hard life lived short hauling the northeast or the fact their not RVSM compliant.

A little research into the shops who cut metal and install cargo door conversions would enlighten you but don't think I'll do the job instead.

You are right.. They are the oldest -300's and -400's on planet earth.. You are wrong about the RVSM compliance. We currently are doing the RVSM work on the aircraft. It's quite simple.

Now I'd like to hear the details on that!

I thought the new generation a/c (RVSM OK) had the pitot/static probes relocated.

Also, you need 2 seperate and independant systems ( we use 4 probes on a 747) with the 737 only having 1?

Our biggest issue was skin waviness which required up to $1 million in sheet metal reworking per a/c.

Did you get some type of waver?
