Has anyone heard any more about US Airways selling the Boeing to FEDEX. Delta made a deal to sell their MD11's ......

Delta Enters Into an Agreement for the Sale of Certain Aircraft
Thursday September 23, 5:36 pm ET

ATLANTA, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - News) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with FedEx Express for the sale of eight McDonnell Douglas MD11 aircraft and four spare engines for delivery in 2004 subject to certain conditions.

If US does sell the Boeings to FedEx, would this invoke the fragmentation plan and allow the Boeing guys to transfer with the planes to FedEx? That would be one way to "furlough out of seniority" and the guys going to FedEx would probably be better off in the end.

FED EX doesn't fly to may Boeings, the 767 is probably the only one. What they like to get their hands on is EXACTLY what Delta has to offer the MD-11 which wasn't well liked by AA or Delta. I really don't think FED EX pilots would go along with taking on any pilots from USAIR, your dreaming!

I had two of our FAA maintance inspectors at different times ride my jumpseat, they did look at them but are no longer interested from what I was told. Also confirmed by some friends in FedEx management.

About a month ago Bruce Lakefield told the ALPA MEC in "open session" that GECAS was orchestrating the transfer of 30 to 40 B737s to FedEx. US Airways monthly lease expense on these aircraft is below market value and were reduced to $80,000 to $90,000 per month. GECAS wants to transfer them FedEx or another airline to get a higher lease payment due to the problems with the RC4.

As you know, GECAS has talked directly with ALPA over the LOA 91 problem and they're not impressed with the RC4.

US Airways' September 10 and 20 proposal to ALPA eliminates fragmentation pilot transfers. Furthermore, the recent out of seniority furlough proposal is designed to pull down an fleet type and then not have to re-train the pilots, which is very expensive, especially for a cash strapped airline.

Didn't Southwest recently float a bond for $350 million. They already had a strong cash position so why would they float a bond? What kind of planes do they operate at Southwest?

Sorry, but the original poster asked for rumors :D .

Well lets throw a little gas on the fire..

Two weeks ago there were some FedEx Line Mechanics attending the US Airways Boeing 737-300/400 initial class here in PIT.. Now why would FedEx need to train line mechanics if they were not getting 737 aircraft..

Second.. Does anyone on this board think FedEx is stupid enough to say to GECAS.. Oh sure, your leasing them to US Airways for 75K a month for a -300 and 90K a month for -400 but we want to pay more!! Oh yeah, we want these 14 to 20 year old aircraft so bad we are more than willing to pay higher lease rates to get them. Yeah, analog cockpits, AD notes out the ying yang but sure we would love to pay more..

FedEx has a long history of getting things on the cheap.. Look at the recent Delta Purchase. 8 low time MD11's for 200mil.. Thats an average of 25mil each.. Low Time wide body and they got it cheap. That is what FedEx does.. Search for deals.. If they get our 737's you can bet it will be for the same rate we are paying.

The only way it would be higher is if GECAS puts up the cash to convert them to FedEx specs including the cargo conversion... That would be the only way.

What fleet types is US Airways looking to park.. Easy.. 757/676.. They get the Farm out OK on the A330 they have a nice big empty hangar in CLT.. They have their lease escape clause coming up in PIT very shortly.. Dump all of PIT Mtc.. Move the C check lines to CLT.. Now they have only one Base Mtc operation, two fleet types gone.. They can use the Star Alliance to pick up the feed they lose for pulling down the 767 transatlantic operation.. Pretty simple, low dollar.. Two fleet types gone, two engine types gone, two different sets of support gone and we are only talking about 41 planes..

The get the out of seniority lay off from the judge so they will have no disruption in service.. All of their dreams come true in one move..

FDX will probably get them for less per month than you're getting them now.

FDX is quite solvent, and not a credit risk. The rates US is paying today reflect the credit risk.

And never underestimate FDX -- they converted a bunch of analog 3-man cockpits on 20+ year old DC10s into digital two-man MD10Fs.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them do that with a bunch of Stage III compliant 733's.

In happier times Piedmont/USAir were the launch customers for the 300/400 series.

What we find ourselves with today is the oldest 737 fleet type on the planet. Not to mention a hard life lived short hauling the northeast or the fact their not RVSM compliant.

A little research into the shops who cut metal and install cargo door conversions would enlighten you but don't think I'll do the job instead.
