AMR purchases 22 more jets

I'll agree on the CRJ's comfort - the ERJ 170 would be a better choice from a customer perspective (although technically it may have exceeded the 70 seat limit since it's certified for up to 74-76 seats I think) - but from what you say it would seem that AA was pretty much stuck with the CRJ700's as the only way to exceed the 47 70 seater limit.

AMR Spends more

Once the spending is over, then we will get our money.

Ooooh another brilliant move. Maybe they can install GIANT fuel tanks and fly them to Europe?!
My FA friends send me texts every few days from Gander when they are refueling on the way home from Europe now because some desk jockey thought flying over the Atlantic with a 757 was a great idea. Yes, buying people off and removing cargo is pure genius. Give the guy who thought of this a raise!!!

They are out of control with their nonsense. All of our passengers are increasingly pissed off about their regional jet experiences now. A first class cabin isn't going to make it all better. Idiots.

I hear Gander is the new mainline choice for international travel on AA...Very scenic from the "A" or "F" seat on the 757..Especailly when the fuel trucks role out...BTW....Did the agent specify a stopover on your route to Europe in Gander? If they say no...I would then ask them to document the number of flights whoi have made this city in Maine such a popular destination for trans atlantic flights....Could be very interesting in a court of law!

There is certainly a place for RJ's (although if you're suggesting that mainline employees should be operating them you'd get no disagreement from me). Because of that, RJ's will be around a long time. But smaller RJ's are losing their economic viability in many of the markets they've been used in, so the move is to larger RJ's. It's definitely not just AA - as I said, they're somewhat late in getting larger RJ's - but all the legacy carriers except CO.

Yes does make sense if they use it properly because what would you do if the plane travel 60% full on daily base on a B777/B767!!!!! AA is not a cargo company but they make moneys of it but the main moneys come from paxs!!!!! I worked for CO for many years they use B757 to low destiny (market) European routes!!!! Don't forget it cost less to operate a B757 than any wide body!!!!! You tell me if were a business man you would take bigger lost on route or smaller lost or close it completely because cost to much to operate in some of those cities. You having plane capable to do job!!!!!

I may be wrong and please someone correct me....but I seem to remember management quoting that the majority of our revenue comes from cargo, mail and otherwise, that and our premium pax....

If they said that they were wrong, at least concerning cargo, mail, and "other". For the first 9 months of this year, passenger revenue was over $12.7 billion, cargo (which includes mail) was $414 million, and "other" revenue (which incudes all the fees the airlines have added) was $1.7 billion. So passenger revenue was roughly 6 times more than the total of cargo and "other" revenue.

Premium pax do provide disproportionately more revenue than their nunbers would suggest. It's somewhat old data (from before the current economic environment) but it's been said that 20% of passengers contribute nearly half the passenger revenue and the top 5% contribute 15% of the passenger revenue - thats your premium pax. I'm sure that the numbers have changed somewhat if you include the various fees that the elite members of the FF program are exempt from paying but that the rest of the passengers pay, but the change probably hasn't been great enough to change the equation.

They are using Gander for the NY fuel stops and Bangor for the ORD ones.

Regardless of where most of our revenue is coming from it is hard to make money if you are buying passengers off to decrease the load and then stopping for fuel enroute to your destination. People don't keep coming back for more of that, regardless of price.

Continental and Delta have been doing it for a while now. It seems that the customer has gotten so used to crappy service and clicking on the lowest price that they're willing to put up with anything. It's disgraceful that this industry has come to this, but nevertheless, it has. I'm embarrassed to admit that I work in this pathetic industry. But, I'll ride this horse till it dies, then find another.

AA buys news airplanes! Stop the presses! Welcome to the airline industry, people.

This is called a capital investment. Absolutely necessary for AMR to continue its present business of flying people and goods around the country. It's how your salaries are paid, in case you were wondering.

<_< ------ And "investing" in your own people! What is that called? ------ If AA wants to keep flying those new planes around the country, they had better put their own house in order before "investing" elsewhere!!!!

I might have low expectations, but I flew in F on a CRJ900 last night, and the service was far better than what I get on an AA MD80 lately... Hot meal (not pre-plated) served on china for a two hour flight. Drink glass was never less than a quarter full without the FA asking if I wanted a refill. Dropped my bag at the airstair door, sat down, and picked up the bag when I got off.

If Eagle is adding the F cabin in markets where I fly, I might be willing to fly on AA a little more. On my last Eagle flight, the FA actually thanked me twice for my business. Sure, she had the paperwork showing me as EXP, but those four words "thanks for your business" have *never* been uttered in my experience from an AA employee.
