Yes, we have mechanics and they’re outstanding at what they do. Unfortunately, regardless of what certain posters state, the “concession stand was not closedâ€￾ and in fact it was blown wide open. And I believe, more open than was necessary.

I believe the mechanics got hurt more than necessary.

I agree!

It's a shame we don't see more of them around on the property! Why is the company not looking to take on outside contracts (like AC or AA do) now that we have the lowest paid mechanics in the industry? Why can't we keep all of our work in house at the lowest wages in the industry? We should be looking to make $$$ at every opportunity possible and start using our "industry-leading" labor rates to turn around and strengthen the financial position of our company.

...IMO, one of the biggest examples of stupidity (typical USAir management) was the CLT station management turning down the contract to handle the 1 LH flight per day from CLT because it would mean too much work for them (management).

I agree with you on that. and the ramp also suffered more than what it should have. If you read the usa today yesterdays edition, it also stated that the IAM was kicked out at NWA because of the 1993 give backs. Gee I wonder why!

I go to the America West hanger in PHX and talk to the mechanics on a regular basis and believe me their far from happy. I would go as far as saying their as upset with management there as they are at U.

Hmm That's funny I make $24.77 an hour after eighteen years with this Airline.
They didn't get our #'s right!!!!!!

And I will agree with USA320PILOT We had some room to negociate something more than they stole from us had the IAM not taken the position they did.Gerry Glass and his boys made a point with their final offer, and I feel it every time I sit down.Lets see how AMFA fairs at Northwest......

If something better had been negotiated, what makes you think they wouldnt have come back for more?

There was no room to negotiate the company wanted what they wanted and how they wanted, the evidence is a proposal that was given to the company in 1/5/05 that met the ask and preserved many jobs, and especially utility at the eight largest stations and numerous shops.

The company rejected, how I know, is I was there and have a copy of it.

320, What you say is true...If the mechanics had a "real" union, They wouldn't of held a "second" vote on the same POS offer !!!

AND, the spineless MEMBERSHIP wouldn't of voted IN the POS offer the second time....

Now, Having said that, Do you actually believe ALPA members fared any better than anyone else ???
