Airline, Pilots Plan New Round

Interesting comments from the article above are:

Evergreen, Co.-based aviation consultant Michael Boyd said pilot reluctance to talk is understandable. "You have a bruised group of people there," he said. "They have taken huge pay cuts, huge benefit cuts and had their pension fund decimated."

The airline faces critical deadlines. It must pay about $110 million to its pension plan by Sept. 15, with about $20 million more due in October. On Sept. 30, it must meet financial requirements associated with $720 million in federal loan guarantees and with financing agreements for new regional jets.

The airline has said it needs deals with its four largest unions to convince lenders it can be profitable. A pilots' deal had been expected to pave the way for deals with the other unions.

US Airways' newly announced strategy to open a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., hub could pay dividends if the airline gained the right to fly to Cuba. "They are the No. 2 carrier in the Caribbean already, and they know that service to Havana and Santiago (Cuba) will be huge," he said.

you know they have a cost figure they want and how you arrive at it will be your business, make no bones about it.....however they won't budge from what they want or they'll ask the judge.
they did this in the last trip through BK...they told us (IAM) basically what i just indicated.
as painful as it may be, what they want is what they'll get..like bronner said "with or without the employess".

Not to worry dude, it only gets better from here. They can only kick the old dog so long until the sting is gone. What they want is the world off the backs of men and women who happen to be in their way. My suggestion, get out of their way and move on, things will look different. They will steam roll over anyone who stands in the way and no amount of posturing will matter, there is no "fought the good fight" theme in this mess because all that will be left of anyone not in high level “mismanagementâ€￾ is casualties. This is now what was once a great place to be, looking at it from a different perspective shows what it has become, ugly as hell.

Cav, I must say, we have disagreed in the past. But, that was the most on target quote I have read on these boards in a LONG time!! Could not agree more with what you say. Also, from a personal note, what I told you in a previous PM, your statement gives me even more reason to believe to persue my venture!! Thanks! Good luck Cav. NFS GOOD DAY!!!

I agree with you, too, Cav. For the first time, of late, I have heard everyone say, including pilots, JUST GET IT OVER WITH. POOP OR GET OFF THE POT. LET US MOVE ON WITH OUR LIVES. Heard these comments from everyone in the rank and file. People are literally fed up and want the MADNESS TO STOP.

I personally can't talk to anyone outside the industry about this. It is too emotional and chaotic to even begin to explain. The greatest people I have ever met have been at U. :(

it can be profitable had management actually listened to the unions during the last few years. i dont think we'll see cuba until the embargo is lifted but i'd bet we have full planes daily going to and from cuba
