Aircraft maint issues

The report said that approximately 24% of heavy aircraft maintenance is performed offshore, up from about 7% in 2003.

The report includes estimates that U.S. airlines spend about $2 billion annually on maintenance work in South America, China and Europe, an amount that could otherwise be spent on an estimated 8,200 jobs for U.S. mechanics.

Foreign outsourcing “creates an unnecessary and devastating economic impact on future generations,” said John Samuelsen, president of the TWU, which represents about 60,000 airline industry workers, including mechanics at American and --- at Southwest.

I have the report but I don’t know how to share the PDF publicly and the TWU is working on providing a link to it.

As I understand it there are 3 ten bay hangars in central and South America. We priced ourselves out of the market with labor costs and I'm sure with EPA laws, as they don't care about their environmental laws as much as the USA. Wait until they have a river that catches fire.
Who's we?

After watching this, even if were we're the TWU, I can honestly see, you guys going at least 3years, and will probably need medication. Sounds alot like us, and I have been in negotiations, and system boards before.

Nostradamus. Medication?

That was last year. Both sides have finally moved forward in negotiations since SWA needs those Hawaiian ETOPS flights soon.
Yes both sides have moved forward. The co. suit is still active though. However, with that said, there was an individual who was fired by the company that the co. was claiming he was overheard telling other members to boycott the overtime when he was actually explaining the rules of overtime, not boycotting it. This member after a long time off has since been brought back to work with full back pay, averaged in O/T and even kept the full amount of the go fund me funds that all the employees have donated to. Pretty sure that will have a great deal of affect on the outcome of the co's suit...

The reason I said 3 years, is because I am giving the TWU the benefit of the doubt, that they would hold for a decent contract for you guys. Now what about the IAM side, I don't know, they don't say much.

I highly doubt it will be anywhere near that long or even really that much longer before deals are struck but then again it’s my opinion and I’m also not Nostradamus.

Yes we are now at the hardest parts to finish off. But all can be resolved with one phone call now at this point. All the other language that needed to be reconciled and agreed to between all the groups is finished now. All of that was the real hard part.

Now you're starting to catch on. Welcome to the IAM and our world.

I told you guys years ago you are the majority now. If you want a change it'll have to come from you guys. You'll get no help from us, as you can see now.

BTW, question. Why aren't the TWU people in BOS allowed to touch a logbook?

Because the company feels like they are causing delays. They have been going IAW as we are all supposed to do per the GPM.
