The ALL POWERFUL AND MIGHTY AFL-CIO really showed them at US AIRWAYS! Vote YES to concessions and save jobs. Please don't strike that will cost us dues money!

Got another card from STS today. They want mechanics in Mobile,Alabama paying $27.00/hr with "HEAVY OVERTIME" to work on US AIRWAYS and "others" jets. Way to go,AFL-CIO! We'll git'em next time! Will STRIKE(a deal) when provoked!

Princess .............Everybody knows that the afl-cio does'nt care about any of the unions under its umbrella as long as they get there piece of the pie.

You are absolutely right. Us ex-EAL people are still trying to figure out what benefit we received for being in the AFL-CIO.

AFL-CIO or not, when does the responsibility lie to the member that votes the concessions into play? Wether I befriend a union rep or not, if I disagree with his line of reasoning I let him know and vote the way I best feel will assist my employment and profession.

What is wrong, is the "sale/snow job" done by involved parties in regards to the product, or contract, they are pursuing.

Snow job or scare tactics it does'nt much matter what you call it. The bottom line is the same and the twu does what ever it takes to get the results that it wants. The way you are talking Seed, it sounds like you are catching on to the way that the twu does business.

The thing is we pay the union to provide leadership that will enhance our living standards. The TWU takes our money but advises us to accept terms that lower our living standards but imporoves their living standards, and we can not hold them accountable other than by voting out the entire TWU.

The fact is that the company was giving the hard sell on concessions and the union did not fight it, in fact they even went harder when Jim Little said that if we did not give concessions that the company might go straight into liquidation. Jims reason for doing this is quite easy to discern, he wanted to scare senior workers into voting yes. The union failed to provide balanced information so the members could make an informed decision. Instead they further tried to instill panic among the members.

I just wonder what the TWU would have done if we had voted the concessions down? Would we have had a revote or would Jim Little signed the deal anyway saying that we were "confused"?

The $27.00/hr in Mobile, Alabama is the overtime rate, so in reality they are only paying $18.00/hr. STS advertises "heavy overtime". Is this what aviation maintenance has come too? Nothing but unlicensed contractors who have to move city to city and work 120-140 hours a week? Thanks AFL-CIO,TWU,IAM!
