Abandoned Gates

We've all left out how PHL will handle the merger of the two carriers.

I predict that AA and US will stay exactly where they are and only the signage will change.

(This after countless, sleepless nights trying to come up with a cohesive, intelligent prophecy on this very important matter.)
Agreed, except for the current AA ticket counter. As previously mentioned, the AA gates are located within a terminal that is already mixed in with US gates, so that will just provide some additional gates after the merger.

Some additional gates? I think AA is getting more than "some" additional gates in PHL. They are getting about 75 +/- additional mainline gates, about 30 some express gates, three additional concourses and an additional terminal.

Some?

I meant that the combination of the 2 would yield a few more gates to what already exists. I think that just about all on here are aware that PHL is a US hub, and that AA has minimal existence there. I guess that you can twist my comment anyway that you wish, but US will be taking over AA in a station such as PHL. Expect everything to be the same except the name of the company.
Also, the combined airlines won't have 75 gates at all. Taking a quick look, its more like 50 mainline, and 39 express. From what I recall there are about 8 express gates that are unusable due to construction.
So if you want to get technical about everything, your numbers are off by 25 gates.....that's a lot.

That's pretty much a no brainier. US gets more gates in A for future international.

No, I thought that it was under utilized quite a bit nowadays. I haven't been over there in many years, so please excuse my ignorance if I'm off on my assumption.

no worries, but your way off, we gave up way to many gates in LGA, we can't even run the shuttle on a bad day.. oh yeah they are all bad... not enough gates to even handle our own stuff let alone AA

I've gotta agree with FWAAA. All these facilities costs people talk about aren't substantially consequential. Sure the company will take the savings, but the money that matters is found in labor and fuel.

This kind of corporate thinking is at the heart of their failures. I think if you line item the so called inconsequential items they add up to a lot of cold hard cash. Going after labor is just the easiest thing to do. Used to be you did everything to keep your assets like employees around as lon as you can. Now, all you have to do is go into bankruptcy with 4 Billion in the bank and take as much from your employees while ignoring all other problems. Nevermind unused gate space or Townhomes in the Kinsington district of London! Hey, will even give the Ceo 19 million and lifetime travel for working for not much more than a year. Cause these are just drops in the bucket for such a large company and therefore not consequential.

Not taking a jab at you personally. Just makes me laugh when company management continues to step over a dollar to save a dime.
