United announces new 757 premium 3 class service transcons. How will this effect AA? How should AA respond? With over 43% of the market share compared to Uniteds 25%. We have a lot to lose.

UA is cutting a lot of capacity with its 110 pax 757s; AA should tweak its F and J offerings and watch victory come its way when UA folds.

from what I understand, UAs 3 class transcon will be flown on reconfigured 757 a/c...
that should be interesting???

AAs premium transcon product has eroded considerable since its launch and can use a overhaul...

look for new AA product design-logo to tag lines-uniforms to service-
from what I hear AA is in the process of including transcon markets in this redesign-

lots to gain or lots to loose-my faith in the marketing and on board products dep. at AA is next to zero -maybe there is a breath of fresh air on the way with a new inovative premium transcon product..and capicity additions to compete with llcs....
t we should know soon-

It was a considerable jump in the end of 91 when we introduced the 3 class DC-10 in the market. Cavier to ice cream and everything in between. What a change over the old 24 and 256 config we had been using for so many years before.

Are they still offering cavier and icecream on transcons?

AA killed the cavier in 2000, ice cream still available on all transcons first and business as well as many domestic and most international flights.

phew...good, then we're the same.. Miss that cavier but the hot fudge sundaes are to die for! Haagen Daaz White Chocalate Macadamia Nut Ice Cream with Hot Fudge and Whipped Cream................makes life great!!!!

of course we have plain old Vanilla too!!!

Long haul first and transcon ges Ben and Jerrys vanilla and the toppings. Domestic F/C gets a non premium varity like bluebell but with the toppings. Business class gets a flavored with no toppings. They are good every once and while.

I hope they keep 767's on JFK-LAX. People who fly this route expect a widebody. I think they should refurb the cabins, get some real first class seats and get rid of those junky first class seats they have now, and increase IFE offerings, among other things. Having flown on this route, I agree, an enhanced product is needed.

Change around the service, just don't add another sub-fleet please.

United's new 757 premuim transcon sounds too good to be true. 80 inch First Class, 60 inch Business Class & only Economy Plus, no more really cheap seats. Sounds almost like Singapore Air's new A345 with Executive Economy and Raffles Class only. I think UA doesn't have enough 763 for domestic service, given there demands flying internationaly, the 757 gives them a neat solution. Flying with fewer passengers is always a plus. It will be interesting to see how AA responds.

The cost with creating a sub fleet has to be expensive. Its 13 planes with low utilization, unless they are worked in to the UAL system doing something else. The other thing they will have to price match and will be selling some seats to match JB, Virgin, AWA while trying to steal some of AA's bread and butter.

I don't think you'll see much of a response from AA. Cost of doing what UAL is doing is just too high. AA management knows they need a more competive first and business class product, but I'm guessing an upgrade is 2-3 years away.

From everything I've heard AA management is amazed by the recent moves United has been making and has no intention of following anything they do.

AA is in the process of selecting a new lie flat business class seat to replace the crap seats we have now. They cannot afford to sit back and wait to see if we are losing market share. At that point its too late.i
