AA continues growth in South Florida

American Airlines, continues to grow their schedule in South Florida. This is beyond the schedule additions previously announced for November 2009 at Miami International Airport
Effective Feb. 11 from MIA, American will begin a third daily flight to Lima, Peru, and a fourth daily flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. There will be an eighth flight operating twice weekly to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Additionally, American will add a second daily flight from Fort Lauderdale International Airport to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
In June 2010, a fourth daily flight from MIA to Kingston Jamaica, will be added, and the two daily flights currently operating to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, will see an upgrade in equipment from the current 148-seat Boeing 737 to the 188-seat Boeing 757.

MIA will be at a record 276 daily departures, the most ever for AA out of MIA.
While mainline capacity has increased continually for the past 20 years, daily flights started decreasing in the late 1990s due to the reduction in regional flying that went from a peak of around 265 dailies around 1999 to about 210 dailies in 2001.
MIA will likely be at around 320 daily departures within 18 months.

Who will "crew" these flts.? APFA f/as or foreign nationals?
The foreign nationals can only fly 4 of the mentioned destinations, and that is MDE,CNF,GIG and MVD. They are also limited to the amount of frequency in Some of the South American cities that they aren't based in. Miami Int F/A's and the F/N's alternate cities that they can fly to. At this time there are just under a total of 500 based in BOG,LIM,EZE,SLC.
The FN's can fly to any destination from Miami except CCS, SJO, GIG and GUA. They are limited to 2% of the number of persons on the APFA seniority list. APFA FA's are guaranteed all MIA-EZE flights in excess of 7 round trips per week.
Mikey...just to clarify your point a bit: FNs cannot work trips between MIA and Europe (the company attempted to utilize them in this manner during our '93 strike and US immigration put an end to it very quickly). I am not sure if they are allowed to fly from MIA to MEX or CUN, but I believe these routes are also restricted. I'd have to check...
I just wanted to add this in case someone read your previous post and was led to believe FNs are allowed to fly to any destination other than the ones you listed.

They are not allowed to fly with in the US or to any other US gateway including SJU. They are restricted to Central and South American destinations. The company can use European based foreign nationals when the number of APFA flying hours have increased 15% over the flying hours in 6/90 or 1/92. They would still be restricted to the current total number of FN's. Any european flying would be done by European FN's Not the current S. American FN's.
The article was negotiated by Cheryle Leon, who to put it nicely worked during the strike. She refuses to assist APFA in any grievances we had about the FN agreement. Since sometimes you can only argue intent to an arbitrator about a difference in the reading of the agreement. We cannot even do that. I guess it is Cheryle's ultimate chance to screw the membership again and again.
