A380

Guys, she just asked a question. Three pages of trying to make a person feel stupid. So a F/A is not such an airplane geek to know who has ordered a specific aircfaft type and why. Do you know everything about her job? Obviusly not from recent posts...

If I had posted a year ago that US Airways would post a profit or merge with America West you would have fried me at the stake and saif I know nothing about the industry, blah blah blah. No matter how long some of you have been in the industry, perhaps you haven't noticed that things change daily.

I just don't see the point in insulting someone for no reason, although one specific poster on here lives for that one reason only- to make everything negative and whine about how much better the competition is.

Anyway, it is an interesting question what route US will go for widebodies, whether they will wait for Airbuses next design, order more 330s, or go for another option. US Airways needs them now, not in ten years.

I was just curious why U won't go with the A380 instead of the 350 that has been scrapped?

xo,

Sorry we have so many idiots here stuck in the past, no imagination much less creativity.

You, sir, ask a very good question that deserves an intelligent answer, unlike those I have read.

Many airports can now handle the A380, excluding PHX, LAS, and CLT. LAX, PHL(!) and PIT can handle it. Just because idiots rooted in their own backyards with no provisions, much less the ability to conceive or drive such innovations, cannot envision progressivism, much less making it a worthy exercise.

Between BA and Virgin, there are six full 747 equivalent nonstops from LAX to Heathrow daily, not counting the low-fare one and two stop lowcost equivalents. With an operating cost slightly above that of a 747, carrying twice the load, I can easily see where the 380 can replace multiple 747 segments. Facilities will never be a problem with LAX.

CLT will always be a backwater, their traffic artificially boosted for now simply because marketing is forcing traffic through their facilities. They need a Florida base for routes south, not CLT. CLT is a loser.

PIT has tremendous and better potential, which will only be realized by a management willing to use PIT as they use CLT for routes to Europe and the Far East,

PHL needs another real runway. and competant management.

Your question cuts to the bone whether management can actually handle such capacity. From what I have seen of Tempe, I would say no for now. They are extremely weak, much less having the ability to see the future. They seemingly took on all the weakness from U-East, perhaps it was already there.

I would hope they would surprise me.

As far as the A380 goes, As far as this plane being shuttle capable between two cities, this plane has not been optimized for short operations. What a nightmare that would be.

Actually, many inter Japanese flights are on shuttle 747's. I assume their runways aren't THAT much longer.

Could you imagine US Airways with an A380 configured all "shuttle" with 1000 paxs flying from PHL-BOS? Twenty f/a's hiding in a cramped back galley to get away from the 3 hour hold while mutiny breaks out in the cabin?

Give me my 319 (East version) 12fc/108yc...just enough. ;)

Ask the old PSA guys about when they flew the L-1011 in the LA-SF corridor. It took forever to servce and deplane and enplane.

Ah, you must have been hired as a Piedmont person, IQ ignored as a hiring criteria, as usual.

xo,
CLT is a loser.
Are you sure about that?

Charlotte, N.C. is now king at US Airways
Sunday, May 21, 2006
By Dan Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Among all towns served by US Airways, the Queen City is king. Proof of its importance to the nation's fifth-largest airline was evident last week in the choice of gathering spot for the first shareholders meeting since last fall's union with America West Airlines.

It was no accident that US Airways Chief Executive Officer Doug Parker landed in Charlotte, flying cross country from his office in Tempe, Ariz.

Charlotte is King

Quote:

Mr. Parker dismissed such talk, saying Philadelphia, being a much larger city, could draw from a larger base of local air travelers. That is a message, he knows, that is not popular with Pittsburgh-area employees -- 3,000 of whom remain. "It is so emotional there still," he said.

End quote.

This guy is such a robot! Perfect choice for an airline CEO.

Those intra route 747s are also specially modified for short range operations. Those planes don't even compare to the A380.

Or CLT-AVL like they did with the 757s when we first got them and the plane could not make it to the gate as the taxiways were not wide enough the engines were sucking up dirt and grass, had to turn around and fly back to CLT.

The old saying about people living in glass houses and rocks comes to mind.....

Only one of those 3 airports you claim can handle the A380 will be capable of doing so any time soon - LAX. That's after they finish a $87 million infrastructure improvement program.

Other U.S. airports making preparations? JFK, upon completion of a $147 million infrastructure improvement program. DFW, which needs to spend $7 on improvements first.

World-wide, Airbus expects only 24 airports will be able to handle the A380 by year's end. By 2010, Airbus hopes that the number will grow to 67, with possibly 15 in the U.S.

What a bunch of friggin' morons. You people will take a conversation anywhere. I think they should go to two ply toilet paper on the 757 instead of 1 ply. Get a friggin' life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
