A Questionfor the West?

ive worked to LIH flights last week and both went on mx, over a hour long, one had to be a ac swap. oh a 999 flight. you just have to see, belive me it will put a smile on your face

they allways like to blame mx but to tell you the truth I do the etops flights on tuesdays and the last 3 weeks the problems have been dipatch trying to squeeze an extra flight out of the a/c the planes arive in the morning from any of the hawaii cities and they send them to mexico and try and send the plane back to Hawaii scheduled out before the plane gets back into phx and they forget we have to do a etops check after it clears customs. they did it today and we have 2 planes down for the panel ad that had to be fixed and 1 in c-check getting the winglets put on it. so we are short on etops 757's and they are flying the #### out of them.

Just have a back up plan...sometimes DL and UA cancel and US takes their passengers. I have seen a flight go from 30 open seats to an over sell quickly. Do your homework before leaving, and have a back up plan incase a cancelled flight.

I know in the past two weeks, we have had several flights Divert from LIH or OGG to HNL and then cancel leaving a plane full of US pax there to get out of HNL.

If you are fortunate to get on as NR, enjoy...the islands are beautiful..my favorite is LIH.

Mx Ferry...Usually coded by Dispatch for non-revenue service...only Employees can get on these flights so say LIH-PHX cancels...they send a 999 flight (new plane to LIH)...It would be coded as an 999 to LIH and is not put into revenue service usually. (Employees can get on 999s).

Last time I checked 999 was coined on the west side. When I was at the SOC last year I learned that it was the code for cancellation.

Although it was not an ETOPS 757 A/C 913 was returned to the lessor last week so thats one less West 757 in the fleet and will probably indirectly effect Hawaii ops from time to time.

Now two questions. 320 tech mentioned one 757 was in C check and also getting winglets installed? Is the plan to equip all West ETOPS 757's with them ?

Also a few months ago there was a photo of a West 757 with a decent looking new interior, have they done more 757's since or just the one ?

Thanks

All 757s that they plan on keeping will get winglets as I understand it.

You've gotten some great advice here on non-revving to HA, like:

1. Be flexible -- dates and destination-wise (HNL, KOA, LIH, OGG) -- and don't forget, there's a flight or 2 from LAS, too... Keep checking, watch the weather, and keep your eye on "other" airlines -- I would think the shut down of ATA has had an effect, however slight, in Phoenix on Hawaii flights, for example...

2. Get your YV (Mesa/go!) inter-island passes and have "back-up" passes on other carriers -- getting them before you leave is usually simpler and easier than trying to do so when you get there -- sure, the back-up passes cost $$ but why waste precious "island time"?

and, more...

I've been there several times and one additional thing you may want to consider -- THIS IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO USE YOUR SA1 PASSES!!!! (Especially if you're making a connection)

Have fun!
Aloha!

P.S. I thought "special (or extra) sections" -- mx ferries, charters, etc -- had 4 digit flight numbers like 9929, or 9299??? And you could tell by the 2nd or 3rd digit what the "section" was for -- mx, charter, ect...???
