Have the HI flights been running ok enough to non-rev w/ some degree of certainty?

Am planning on a HNL w/ @ 100 open-should I be worried?

Any insight would be helpful

Thanks in advance,

Now that's a loaded question! :) You are, after all, non-reving on US. ;)

Truth be told, on any given day those flights can fall apart, usually due to mx. I don't believe there have been any issues with cxl's lately....those seem to come in spurts.

Have fun and drink a few Mai Tai's for your message board "buddies". :D

There are always 20 non revs, and that is no exaggeration.

The 757's are old, smelly, the inflight entertainment system BLOOOOWS, and the planes are ALWAYS going on MX and 999. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen our 75's goin on MX. I used to be a gate agent and it was ALWAYS a fiasco.

It's a total crapshoot if you are planning a a trip to HNL.

My suggestion is to fly into PHX, LAX, or SFO and take Hawaiian or CO or something.

Trust me, the planes are nicer, you get a meal and you aren't coming home on a redeye in a middle seat.

I just did a search for PHX to HNL for the 25th of March. 10 seats open with 32 non revs. That is very very typical. It is NOT just because it is winter or spring break. I am giving you fair warning right now, as a brother and a friend.

Thanks for the informative responses.

Will have back up on UAL and HAL.

Just one more question-what is a 999 flight(unsked)?

Will heave a few Mai Tai's back and I believe Primo is back, not to mention some Long Board Lagers!

Thanks again.

I just love them 999 flights :) Employees get to fly on these and go plane surfing with the aladdin trays :) Just don't try on a CRJ2...Ouch...

Mx Ferry...Usually coded by Dispatch for non-revenue service...only Employees can get on these flights so say LIH-PHX cancels...they send a 999 flight (new plane to LIH)...It would be coded as an 999 to LIH and is not put into revenue service usually. (Employees can get on 999s).

If you can be flexible on your dates, you can usually find flights with open seats. We've flown to LIH twice in the pst year or so and did ok. But there were flights that were full; we just had to be selective and find a day that was open.

I commuted to / from Hawai'i for over a year, and avoid the HNL flights at all costs.

If you work for US, you fly on go! for free -- so make sure you get an inter-island ticket on YV.

I would always check KOA/LIH/OGG and figure out which one was best and normally make it. There were days KOA had 50 open seats with 5 NRSA's, and HNL would have 10 open seats and 30 NRSA's... most of them don't "know how to non-rev" and don't hop on the other flights, so they stick it out with HNL. Same on the return.. I've never flown out of HNL on US before, always HA/DL/UA... KOA/OGG/LIH, on the other hand, saw me weekly... I remember one KOA flight had 70 open seats and went from 10 NRSA's to 50 on day of departure.

And the connections in the out islands are easy to HNL.. just have to pray go! has open seats.

Our free agreement with GO! (mesa airlines) has ceased with inter island traveling. You have to purchase a regular ticket now or a zed fair back home.

I checked in the old agreement section just last week and it was still there. You mean someones not updating the computer and pass pages?

We were heading to HNL and it was full. Took a flight to OGG and then had a pass on HA/AQ/YV and made it on the first GO! flight. Came back on an AA Zed since we didnt want to wait 10 hours after the cruise to leave the island.

Yep trust me its gone. I called the pass burea to double check and we no longer have benefits on GO!

I was just in Maui couple weeks ago and called GO! just to be sure and got the same results. So it is confirmed.
