A Good Move By Delta

I agree, we do need new uniforms very bad. Ours are very much worn out. But talking about the company not caring, we wear pretty much what we want & no one says a thing anymore. And the real sad thing is most of us have just been treated so badly by the company we just no longer care , really sad.

Saw one domestic f/a wearing white terrycloth slippers in first class several years ago. No joke. There is no pride in the uniform anymore. It is almost twenty years old and USAirways may hold the record for having the same f/a uniform.

That's why we didn't particpate in the fashion show! How exciting would it have been to watch a 300 lb. 60 yr. old walk up and down the stairs of a DC-3 six times in the same uniform? Sounds like an episode of Fear Factor to me! Maybe it was a GOOD thing we didn't participate in the fashion show after all....

Light Years,

Did I read correctly that the mauve blouse is still around? UGH! I always thought that thing looked like a pot holder. Those uniform pieces (tan dress, etc.) were introduced after the PI merger as a pseudo-new look for us. I don't think it worked though. It was the blouse of choice though for some of the "all-nighter gals"; It was so polyester that they could sleep in it on the layover in Erie and it didn't wrinkle.

At US Airways, whatever is in your closet is "still around", regardless of whether or not it matches the current pieces. One example is the red and navy tie which is the "I'm senior/straight/from Pittsburgh" accessory for males.

That mauve blouse was made from coat lining material & had Elizabethan poufs on the shoulders... it was very 1980s Dynasty. The cream dress looked good....only it should have been navy.
My peeve is the cream blouses that look like they are dirty when you stand next to someone with a white shirt on. They love to accessorize perfectly with a big string of Betty Rubble pearls.

I agree. We do have a senior workforce. The issue here is the uniform. We need some "newness" in our product. However, I would drop over dead before I would serve Envoy in khakis and a polo! (As would my business class customer)!
I sat Envoy a dozen or so times last year, and I think in every case I was wearing dockers and a polo, or something similar (albeit with a blazer most of the time).

I dunno about Envoy, but I may be one of the few who thinks that on domestic legs, business casual would be fine for the F/As.

It the service that counts. US F/As still do the best job they can with the cutbacks. Even the efforts of superior folks cannot overcome the cheap feeling of swilling chardonnay from a plastic cup, or eating that nasty brownie while I'm thinking about the ice cream sundae I used to get everytime I took the evening flights to the coast. Or getting a pretty decent meal and breakfast and some really good wine in Envoy. The list goes on.

BTW......just read the In-flight bulletin about MAJOR UPGRADES coming for Envoy Class service. I guess it will happen in phases and phase 1 started Feb 1st and phase 2-3 is slatted for later this year.
Now you know that Star Alliance told them to get it together or else.

Wow.....I still have some of my "senior PIT red and blue wavy ties"......maybe I should Ebay them to the highest bidder, Pittsburgh residents only of course. If I can stand it I might part with my tailored vest too...what a fashion statement that was.

I liked the suit vest....

but remember when they sent the replacement buttons? The AirWAYS buttons were so big it looked like a clown costume.

Does anyone have the official age of the uniform? Now I'm interested in the history of it all. When was the tan/Ghostbusters uniform replaced with the current Navy Gravy mess?

What were the final Piedmont and PSA uniforms like? Wasnt Piedmont navy with stripes? And PSA had some purple?

I always liked looking at the old uniforms in the training center- my fave are the old PSA ones. The Allegheny newspaper print one was fun too.

Clue,

I don't care what the customer wears while on board. They paid for a seat. However, when I go to a department store to buy something-I don't expect to see the Wal*Mart Greeter with 2 teeth in his head to ask me if I want a smiley sticker or not! I'm there to be waited on by someone who I believe has years of product knowlege/experience and can help me with whatever questions I might have.....
(Wardrobe along with a great deal of many other things establish a sense of professionalism) And in our business....that's very important.

Bottom line. You dress to impress. There is a level of professionalism that needs to be acknowledged in the service industry. Period.

Don't ever tell that to KCFlyer or the Southwest zealots.

BTW, are you speaking of the employees only or also the passengers>>>>????

I think the present uniforms debuted in 1983. My memory is telling me that the last PI uniforms were black with red stripes at the sleeves? I think they also had a camel colored uniform as well. I came to U in mid 88 so I don't remember the PSA uniforms. I do remember some of the PSA FAs "fashion statements" though.....what a riot. I remember gettting an LAX based extra on a 727 trip who had a blazer on with no blouse underneath....very Suzanne Sommers looking.
I jumped ship in 96 so I didn't get those new buttons mailed to me.......pretty lame though huh?
You guys are killing me......"Betty Rubble pearls"! I remember the senior gals loved to wear about 2 pounds worth of those things. The thing I miss most about being an FA is all the good people watching while camped out in the terminals; truly an education. PIT hair, CLT hair.....it was all good for a chuckles. I didn't mind the camping out so much either since the trip rig was 1 for 3!
OK.....I have to get some work done today.

How about the PSA girl that ordered the mens double breasted blazer in TALL.....and that's all she wore. No shirt....no pants or skirt...just the mens tall double-breasted blazer. I swear....if we gave these girls a scarf or something, they would have a field day! In the hair...on the shoes, sew two together and make a shaw...the possibilities are endless.
