100 Flights In Pit

that is 100 mainline jets, right now they only have 107, no big change.

If you read the entire article it states that there will be bigger cuts in early 2005 and more to follow in 2006.

I would not be so quick to write "NO BIG CHANGE "

Last Thursday at the ALPA MEC meeting US Airways' executive vice president of marketing and planning Ben Baldanza told meeting attendees that in November PIT will have less than 100 mainline flights per day. These flights will still have the hub and spoke feel and not one of a focus city.

In the spring, provided US Airways is still operating, the company will further reduce service to "focus city" size. The exact schedule and destinations are still under review, but separately I have heard the operation will have about 60 flights. Its unclear how many of those flights will be mainline and/or MDA.

Bob, if you were to adjust your text just slightly, I would find that quote to be spot on. Please remove careful and replace it with sinister, replace largely with completely and if you would be so kind as to please exchange the word sometimes with always and we have an airtight analysis.

A320,

Here is where you get yourself in trouble with many on the board

So far so good. Sticking to the facts of a meeting that can be verified. You however subtly imply that you were in the meeting, as opposed to speaking with an attendee, BIG difference!

In the spring, provided US Airways is still operating, the company will further reduce service to "focus city" size. The exact schedule and destinations are still under review, but separately I have heard the operation will have about 60 flights. Its unclear how many of those flights will be mainline and/or MDA.

You imply that B Ben Baldanza said "provided US Airways is still operating". Your careful shading of the English language and subtle inferences to bolster your points are largely transparent to those of us who parse the documents. This IMO is why you sometimes lose credibility and engender the anger of some posters here. For the most part i ignore the posts and flame wars
Lets not forget the part that if we all give more everything will be just fine and the company will began to appreciate and respect its employees. :(

PineyBob:

There is nothing sinister here and I wrote about Baldanza's comments then my own.

Here's why...Bruce Lakefield said, "Looking ahead to our July ATSB covenants – should be OK. September ATSB and GE covenants – could be a problem, especially since we begin the traditional downward business cycle. This is why we must put in place new deals with everyone by September," he said.

There is reason to believe the company could go into technical default of the EBITDAR and unrestricted cash requirement for Q3. This would require US Airways to renegotiate the loan guarantee terms to prevent the ATSB from calling in the loans, which could trip and involuntary bankruptcy filing.

Considering the issues surround the company, can you tell me if US Airways will be operating in the spring?

By the way, I was at the meeting...how about you? Moreover, what can be trouble about an Internet message board where people lack decorum? If you do not like the information I provide and wish to launch a personal attack, then I suggest you do not read my posts.

In exchange, I'll be sure to ignore your posts going forward.

Hey "Contribute",

First of all, you attribute that comment to "Lark", while you are actually quoting "Piney Bob".

Surely as such a fine and upstanding "formal naval officer" and prodigious internet poster, you should be able to at least correctly attribute the posts you are attempting to comment on. Should we assume you are just as careless and reckless with your inside information you post or hint at?

Oh wait, you don't debate or rebut, you either pout, hide, or make snide personal comments in your smug passive-aggressive manner, with your insincere and blatantly false signature closing.... "Respectfully". And lets not forget your skill at deflection, draping yourself in the flag to defend faulty logic, trotting out personal family issues when you seek sympathy, anything to avoid addressing valid challenges. I've seldom seen you actually engage in a two way discussion with anyone... when you are called to task you fold.

You come across to this reader as increasingly fearful as you watch your "career" come to an unplanned and early termination. You have squandered any credibility you once may have possessed.

Gee thanks Dill! You know I'm always fond of the way you defend a woman's honor, this being no exception! Perhaps jealousy, envy and hate make people misquote and mistake someone's gender?

USA320Pilot -

Normally, I read your posts and glean some insightful info from them. In fact, I look forward to reading them. But your response to PineyBob is a little bit befuddling, and troubling.

See, he never called you "sinister" nor did he launch a personal attack on you. Yet you responded to him as if he had. He merely pointed how your post - while it includes good, factual info - does not clearly separate where the facts stop and your commentary begins.

I think you guys may be missing the point...

US Airways is doomed by its own inability to change.

Over a year ago, US Airways announced intentions to dramatically change the size and scope of the PIT operation. Now, they've extended its life another 6 months or so. Just like the last 1 year extension (until Sept 2004). This management is talking the talk, but they seem afraid to walk the walk.

I think downsizing PIT will be initially awful... for the employees, for the community, and for US Airways. However, in the long run, if PIT needs to be downsized, it should be done. Yesterday... Not tomorrow. There is nothing worse than allowing an "infected wound" to fester... especially when the patient is on life-support. (No offense intended to PIT employees... but management has been hinting for several years that PIT is a problem financially.)

Management explained to us about a year ago why PIT needs to be downsized, and yet they are incapable of following through. I am very disappointed in this news, as I beleive it is not good for the future of US Airways.
