Will Oneworld lose JAL?

Somehow I don't think they'll be in a hurry to send work to TUL when they already have their own maintenance subsidiary. But it might serve as an interesting model for AA to follow....

Last year, JAL consolidated all of their maintenance subsidiaries (they had separate subsidiaries for overhaul, component, engine and line) functions into a single business unit - JAL Engineering Co.

And I stand by my theory, a maintenance subsidiary of AMR is in this compny's future.

I guess JAL won't be AAs and OWs partner any more. We will see how much smaller JAL becomes in US market. We will see if ATI approve will be easy or hard by how much market either one gives up in US. Also lets wait an see if this story is true. Anyone else can confirm this article?

Delta had previously offered a total $1.02 billion in financial support to JAL, including $500 million in new investment. As the leader in rebuilding the airline, however, ETIC apparently inclined to the belief that foreign financing was unnecessary for recovery, and elected to restrict any involvement with Delta to business collaboration.

It seems that every newspaper article that comes out of Japan
regarding JAL allianace preference points toward a Delta preference.
It will be interesting to see the outcome.
I only hope that it will take them as long as AA/BA alliance to complete.

As I've said before, I don't see ATI happening for any Delta/JAL combination. The combined percentage of control at NRT would be too high and would totally stifle competition, especially as AA would draw down its Japan presence.

Oneworld may have to go back to having CX as its Asian partner. Not a bad option...

And the newspapers in Boston predicted that Coakley was a shoe-in for Teddy's seat...

I'll believe it when the ink is dry on the contract.

Can't say it's deserved, but AA's used to being screwed when it comes to serving Asia...

The Japanese could required beyond right divestitures as part of approving ATI for both NH/UA and DL/JL. As the 787 deliveries approach, those rights are of a dubious value anyway. But that would require being aggressive, something totally foreign to them.

It looks like either DL is paying the media off in Japan or the financial analysts in Japan really believe that a tie up with DL is better. In some case it is but thats if they get ATI.
