why is he smiling at this disaster?

Let's take a look at what you said.

I would suppose that if that lightpole was breakaway, that is would have sheared off and the car that was crushed should have been shoved out of the way instead of smashed.

Now you accuse me of being the one blaming the pole? I was questioning your accusations that if somehow the light pole was a breakaway the day would have been saved. The accident chain is long and distinguished in this event. What if it back to the approach desccent or even the preflight at BWI and change something and the child would have most likely seen Christmas. I suppose you would argue that there was no guarantee he would have met some other fate if not for SWA so nothing is guaranteed. Either way it is what it is, and the pictures tell the story very well.

Everybody wins this debate. The whole point of accident investigations is to improve ALL possible items that can prevent or diminish the magnitude of similar circumstances in the future. Thus the "breakaway" light pole issue IS as relevant as any other as the lack of one was also a contributing factor in the fatality. Not the ONLY factor but it must be acknowledged.

No, that is not a SWA uniform. It does appear to be similar, however, that "person" is part of local law enforcement or airport ops

I've been told by two or three different folks that she's a local attorney who deals with aviation lawsuits, and had every reason to be smiling...

hmmm, lawyer, southwest employee, or cop - still rather sick.

Are these two pilots still employed?
Yes. There has been no conclusive finding of the nature of their role in the incident. It is inconceivable for someone to be terminated solely on speculation of guilt. To my knowledge the individuals are on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
