Okay...
I was on a Flight Last night and the Flight Attendant didn't sit on the Jumpseat for Take Off... She sat in the 1st Row.... Should I say anything ? If so... TO WHO???

Was the j/s broken? If so, it must be MEL'd and it is perfectly ok to sit in a pax seat. Happened to me numerous times. The pax seat must be as close to my exit as possible and blocked as a f/a seat.

She had the J/S down before we took off...Sat on it for Landing !!!

Colby,
I think the time for saying something is past. You probably should have said something to the F/A as you were getting off. Save yourself for the real battles in life! This I have learned through not just 25 years of flying, but as a Police Officer for 3.

I'll Let it go!!! Just one more thing....The person sitting next to her in 1st row I believe was a friend...She spent A LOT of time talking to them.... Guess there is an Advantage to being the only F/A on the RJ....You CAN do whatever you want!!!!

Passengers do not know what is allowed by the company's FAA approved operations specifications. Based on your question, I'm sure that you've never seen a F/A in other than a jumpseat so you assume that is the only place they can sit.

This is absolutely incorrect, varies by airline, aircraft type, and of course MEL.

DENVER, CO

Actually, ua767, colby is a furloughed FA (from real US) so she knows about this stuff.

Maybe the seat was MEL'd, but Mesa's FAs have become a punchline due to thier lack of professonalism. This makes me question thier competency level.

Sitting in a passenger seat for landing is a safety issue. Colby, I'd write a letter with the flight number. If she wasn't doing anything wrong she won't get in trouble. If she was, she will.

Write to US Consumer Affairs, it'll make its way to Mesa.

I happend to see this often when flying Express. As a customer it doesn't bother me. Often it is cold next to that door, especially in winter, and they wear a scarf around their necks or even a coat.

It's no big deal.

I used to fly for Express. We would be in big trouble if we werent in an operable jumpseat for takeoff and landing. Sometimes I would scoot into 1A right after takeoff, or wait until the last minute to scoot back in to the JS for landing, but you sat in it as required by the FAA. In this case its not really what the customer thinks about it, the jumpseat is a crewmembers required position, its not just to keep the crew out of the way...

Light Years...Thanks for the help...

Let me clarify a few things here. I AM A FURLOUGHED F/A !!! I may have only flown 3 years but I still remember what a Jumpseat is for and WHY!!!

This F/A sat in 1c for TAKEOFF !!! Then sat in the JS for Landing...Obviously the J/s was operating just FINE !!!

Now, for those of you that havent been through the 6weeks of H@#* !!! If you look at a F/A on the Jumpseat you'll notice the Shoulder Straps He/She has along with the Lap Belt. Guess What ..... We have a Brace Position and a reason for all the extra safety wear...It's called...In case of an emergency Landing ESPECIALLY an Unplanned Emergency WE are the ones that need to be able to get all the Passengers off the Airplane. The Jumpseat is our place to be with extra Protection ...if you will.. to make sure we are able to help you off the Airplane.
Its hard to explain...But I obviously was a little irratated to see this...I fly Express A LOT and this was the 1st time I saw this.

let it go. i understand how you feel . i fly x-press alot myself and i see things done by f/a's that shoudn't be done. i guess they feel that since they are the only ones onboard that they could get away with it. but i would never write up another f/a. never.

I love this subject, Mesa Flight Attendants, their turn-over rate is like 100% every 6 months. I had a friend who was non-reving from LIT to CLT a couple of months ago on MESA and the F/A went into the flight deck and stayed there for the majority of the flight. How safe is that??? I do not believe in tattle tailing on people, but the things the Mesa F/A's are doing are uncalled for and if a Mainline F/A pulled that crap they would be called into to see a supervisor and disciplined immediately!!!

Okay....This is my end result.... I am NOT Going to Write up this obviously Careless F/A for this one.

BUT ..... Any MESA Flight attendants that are reading this....(If you actually know about this site) Let me give you a heads up.... If I ever see this again... I WILL MAKE NOTE OF THIS TO THE APPROPRIATE PERSON !!!! I was non reving to go to an Open House for another Airline looking for a JOB.... Yes I am Pissed that you would Jeapordize the safety of your Passengers Let alone your JOB.... There are THOUSANDS of Flight Attendants out there looking for jobs right now...SO My Advise to you is.... STAND UP AND FLY RIGHT !!!!!!!!

Etops-

Employees of Mesa are not "one of us" just as employees of Air China are not "one of us". I have the utmost respect for employees that do thier job in the safest manner... I have no respect for airline employees who compromise the safety of our passengers.

This is a particularly sensitive topic seeing as US Airways has 5000 flight attendants laid off (nearly 50% of the workforce) that would be happy to have a job on that navy jet with a flag on the tail (shouldnt we, really?) even at the dire poverty wages. Our management chooses to replace us with Express carriers, the bottom of the barrel Express carriers, that are so cheap they cant keep employees and the ones they do make a joke out of our airline. Customers, arent you enjoying the lower fares now that U is using scumbag, slave labor, questionable regional airlines? Oh wait, the fares are the same......?

I would like to say that I would never write up another F/A, but not only a safety issue but an employee that is being contracted by the company?
