What The Deal With Those Pa's?

I can tell you that passengers do listen to this announcement.
When I meet a flight, only a few psgrs ask for gate information,
however if the flight attendent says they didn't get a connecting list,
half of the aircraft ask about gate information. Lets not complain
about not getting enough sleep as a deadhead and try to help our
passengers.

Great idea! The announcement should also include advice to check the monitors for gate changes. Nothing like seeing someone hustle to another concourse only to find the gate switched to the concourse where they arrived.

I know that UAL does not have the F/As announce connecting gates. I don't think DL does either. How about rest?

How do F/As feel about this issue?

Some of the other airlines have stopped with connection announcements for the reasons listed here- its long and annoying, gates are subject to change, and most of the time customers already have thier boarding passes for thier next flight.

I think an announcement would suffice without the actual list of cities. Include:

*Arrival gate/baggage

*Point out airport map in Attache

*Remind customers to check monitors

*Special info... (buses betwwen terminals etc)

*See a F/A for questions.

This is a time when F/As are in the cabin anyway. Most customers do know where they are going and could do without hearing about Dubois and Baltimore. Customers that do need help usually will ask, and F/As should make themselves available. When I'd see someone with the Attache out, or someone elderly, or young, or a family or whatever, I'd ask them if they know where to go for thier connecting flight. I'd rather see the folks that need assistance get personalized help than have than dreadful list read, particularly on larger aircraft. Just my two cents.

Actually, it is stated "that if your connection was not read, please check the television monitors inside the terminal for all updated flight and gate information, or speak with a representative greeting this flight.

Passengers, really don't read their itinerary well and often do need assistance. Well they could read it, but don't successfully. So much of the paper work should be simplified. People would do better if things were worded like our primary readers were. See Jane. See Spot. See Spot run. See Dick and Jane.

Most passengers look at their boarding time(which is wee wee wee little down in the bottom right corner of their ticket) and freak out. They think it is their departure time. So connections are really important to those connecting.

For those of us/you that feel these announcements are a pain in the ear, just remember that many folk are still first time flyers and/or seldom fly but once every few years. This information is comforting to them. It really is. :)
