Victory Garden .....

Sometimes I wish it was not. That is only half of it.

Of course most is untouched neighborhood for the deer...until hunting season.
You cannot see the deer stand in the picture (there are another 20 acres behind me).

That green stuff is a mix of feed plot stuff I bought from the local sporting goods store right after hunting season.

I only hunt on my own land. I take only what I can eat in the year (usually one or two deer).

Yea, I kind of figured as much but I am kind of banking on the fact that some of the stuff won't make it for what ever reason. Should it all survive we will have a littel display of Darwinism at work. Only the strong will survive. This is our first time trying this and I am sure there will be a learning curve.

Thanks for the info though.
Keep the pix coming Garf...

Here is my latest accomplishment. Getting grass to grow along the banks of my newly dug pond.

I just stocked it with 100 Blue catfish, 100 Coppernose Bluegill, and 10 pounds of fathead minnows. The Largemouth Bass will go in in May.

I did just buy one of those upside down tomato planter boxes. It sits on my back porch. I have 4 tomato plants hanging from under the box and strawberries growing from the top.
It looks similar to the picture below, except it is plastic. I will post a pic later. I hope everyone will keep us updated on how ther gardens are doing. (Maybe in between the snipe sessions).

I did the garden thing with a large 80'X80' plot a couple of years ago, but got tired of fighting the rabbits, deer, raccoons, etc...for the food. Not to mention it takes much hard work and a lot of time.

Home-grown tomatoes are just delicious. Enjoy them!
Your pond and acreage are really nice. Happy fishing! :)

All of your gardens look good. Best of luck with them to all of you. :)

If you can grow a garden good for you. I am jealous. Where I live it is not sunny enough to grow anything but moss and ferns.
How about some mushrooms? I have known people to grow some very delicious exoctic (tasty) ones in your area. (No, not the hallucinogenic variety). Or maybe build a cheap greenhouse.

Talk about mushrooms, every once in a while we see high school kids roaming the neighborhood and scouring peoples lawn for mushrooms. The greenhouse is a good idea but the trees around my house are so tall that I don't get much sun to grow things except for about two or three months. Tried growing tomatoes once and I think I got three of them to ripen and this was in september.

There are some really cool small indoor hydroponic setups available that do not take up much space. They will provide you fresh organic tomatoes year round. You will recoup your money easily with the first couple of crops if you love tomatoes like I do.

I buy all of my seeds from the Tomato Growers Supply Company out of Ft. Myers, FL. They have an awesome array of seeds and hybrids that are tailored for different climates.

This is my newest contraption.

(bump)

How is everyone's gardens progressing? It has finally (well almost) warmed up enough to be frost free, so I'm just getting around to planting today...

The upside down tomato experiment is ongoing.

They had leaf spot right away (that could be because I can see the bottom of the leaves all the time). They are growing fast.

After watching many infomercials, I made my own by cutting a 1" hole in the bottom of a laundry detergent 3 gallon bucket. (I painted it red). I planted one better boy in that. It is doing great. I planted a sweet banana pepper on the top.

My strawberries are taking off.

I just bought the upside down tomato thing yesterday. I hope it works. After looking at it I think I might try what you did and make a home made upside down planter.

So far so good. I have 11 tomatoes on one plant (we bought one more mature one and one smaller one). The seeds we planted for C antelope, Cauliflower and cucumbers all sprouted. The saplings we bouht are all doing well also. I'll try and snap some pics on my next day off and post.

My younger brother gave me some tomatoe plants he started for me.
I'm going to put them in this weekend.
They look nice and healthy.

My wife got one of those things as a novelty gift for her birthday, so we're going to try that too... I just have to figure out where to hang it (I don't have a deck, or eaves that would support it)....
