Service will be 2X per day on CRJ-200. This will be a PSA service in addition to other PSA op. services at CAK: 5X per day to CLT and 2X per day to PHL.

Along with that, they slap on their new slogan. "Non-Stop Service To Your Home Town. We Get It!"

As DCA's largest operator it's experience what counts. I hope they get it, even if it is with Express.

My guess is that another carrier will be granted these slots to serve CAK. Now that the cat's out of the bag, others will cry foul that USAirways has so many slots already (probably the most) at DCA that giving two more would be anti-competitive. My bet is that NW Airlink will try for them, or maybe even AirTran who will offer to serve the uncontested market with "real" airliners.

Airtran will probably operate svce between CAK and it's BWI hub. However if US is granted this authority, I hope PSA is dependable or the service won't be successful

Minor correction: It would only be once daily (2 slots = 1 dept & 1 arr)

While we're on the subject of new routes, US will be launching weekend BOS-PLS flights starting 1/10/09. This winter US will fly to 8 Caribbean cities from BOS; daily service to SJU and weekend service to AUA, CUN, GCM, MBJ, NAS, PLS, and PUJ.

Schedule to PLS is as follows (Sat/Sun only):

BOS-PLS
800a 1148a US991 0 319

PLS-BOS
100p 425p US990 0 319

i find it interesting that Ohio is kissing US arse after what AWA did to them in 99-00. they basically dumped service from CMH. However i see this as a ploy by the city to finance the deal as well. I believe the city will subsidise the flts to ensure US stays for sometime, on those routes.

Thank you for your correction. I'm thinking it will be an evening flight DCA-CAK with the aircraft returning back to DCA the next AM. I know, I know, I'm too lazy to look up the docket, but I thought it would make sense.

By the way, I heard they will be extending a runway at DCA. I wonder if that will allow for extra traffic. I wish they weren't x-crossed.

All I can say is "The airline will fly a comfortable CRJ-200 on the route. "

Muhahaha, OH so comfortable...

It makes most sense for them to keep it PSA to keep it in line with all the other USX services into the CAK station. CAK is 100% PSA, so it just makes sense. Although, I have to agree with you, not the most comfortable thing it the world. A 170 would be much nicer. At least it's not Air Whisky or CR9 Mesa (I do however think the CR9 isn't all that bad for flights under 2 hours.)

I really only threw AirTran out as a possibility.

You are missing the entire point. The point is to get the service and slots at DCA where NO ONE is competing to CAK.

The market out of DCA is entirely different than their BWI hub operation. DCA would be a great point-to-point market without competition to CAK. ANYBODY can start service BWI-CAK.

CAK is a PIEDMONT STATION staffed by PIEDMONT EMPLOYEES, PSA no longer staffs any customer service or ramp.

How long did HP operate the hub in CMH?

Not really, AirTran's services NE Ohio exclusively out of CAK, avoiding CLE's outrageous landing fees. And they've done well for themselves, they may want to go after DCA-CAK service. Then again they MAY want to operate competing service BWI-CAK

Anyone familiar with the market would know that BWI-CAK is not really any competition for DCA-CAK. That's why DCA has slots and can command premium fares over BWI and IAD.
