Us Cuts Flights At Phl, Fll, And Clt

The problem USA320 would be solved real quick if fuel would spike to 60 a barrel. The problem would go away...real soon.

The major problem is simple: it's primarily fuel, fuel, fuel...

You just now figuring that out. IMO the cost of fuel will be the death blow to US and a couple of other airlines. Labor cannot possibly carry the load by taking paycuts unless they paid the company to come to work.

Fuel is the problem you're faced with and I think you ain't seen nothing yet. Imagine if crude goes for around $60.00 p/bbl which is what some have predicted in the not to distant future.

Somebody somewhere better figure something out real fast.

lower demand for Jet A should lower prices
[post="250919"][/post]
That maybe true. But just because the demand maybe lower in the USA does not mean the demand won't still be there. Fuel is a world market issue. I think you're correct in that demand causes the price to go up and if the USA demands less of it I don't think it will matter that much cause there are countries like China that will demand more. Thus the price will stay high. Can companies like US/UA/AA possible pay the same for fuel that the China government can. I think not. And OPEC could care less. They will sell to the highest bidder.

Sorry for being off topic.

Also a little off topic but what have the USAirways guys who went to JetBlue and Southwest have to say about things there and the change in culture, atitude, etc?

ALPA comments on reduction of 11 B737s in May – February 25

Tonight US Airways ALPA Communications Committee Chairman Jack Stephan said, “US Airways announced today that it will adjust system wide capacity, slowing growth, by returning 11 B-737s to lessors beginning in May. ALPA has contacted management about the ramifications of this announcement, and the Company has confirmed that due to historical data on retirements, early retirements and attrition, current and projected staffing, and the increased productivity provided for in LOA 93, no pilot furloughs are currently planned or anticipated, nor are there any current plans to revise the bid that was just closed for the months of May and June 2005.â€￾

It is a totally different experience. There is no way to compare working for jetBlue vs US Airways. Its like night and day..

The corporate culture is completely different.

Here's an example: One of the original guys who bid BWI MX when it first opened is leaving for PHX, tonight is his last night. The MX manager came in with pizza and a cake on RON shift to wish him well.

Granted, on the grand scale of things it not that big of jesture but the guy has worked hard at this station and the boss is showing his appricatation.

Also, we have a message to the field each year. IMHO it's great, It's sort of an honest "state of the airline" assement. We are given objectives by Gary or Collen for us to try and achive for that year and feedback is given for the goals that were requested the year before. Finally, anyone who has a question or suggestion about any thing that is regarding the airline can ask at this time and get direct feedback from the CEO.

Some of the Fort Lauderdale service is being pulled down, but the company is expanding its airport facilities and ground work force, thus it appears that part of the move could be seasonal and the Panama City and San Salvador service is poor performing.

Well that is a stroke of genius!!! Beef up ops cut service!!

"In regard to Panana City and San Salvador, the announcement was likely due to poor bookings. Over all, it’s my understanding much of the Fort Lauderdale plan is a success with strong bookings and obviously some is not as successful."

Hello, service to PTY began 3 days ago and SAL not even two weeks ago. How does one define success of failure after so few days in operation. I checked a few loads into mar-apr. Not all bad, PTY was overbooked a couple of days.

Its embarassing and very disappointing to see the transformation plan sink so quick. So does one take the buy-out or wait for unemployment and retraining?

Non Rev:

There seems to be "more of the story" regarding Panama City and San Salvador, which we could hear about in the not-so-distant future. After more investigation, your comments about Panama City are correct.

Separately, the Passenger Baggage Call Center in PIT is closing. Baggage-related calls will be directed to a new call center operated by a company called Atento in El Salvador. Atento has begun the training for the US Airways group and they will be servicing calls beginning this week. US Airways currently has a Website Technical Support Center in San Salvador and is likely to open a new reservations center there too.

Just when you thought a really lousy baggage situation could not get any worse! At least we still have Al and Donna backing the customer service agents. I think the real name of the company in El Salvador is They don't give a sh**-o!

Looks like US is giving up PHL-TPA to WN, cutting three flights!
[post="250842"][/post]

Not quite. We currently have 10 flights a day from TPA-PHL so cutting 3 still leaves us with 7. From a C/S perspective, thats about 6 more than is manageable. :shock: :up: :lol:

Cutting flights and getting rid of aircraft is a result of a business plan that changes from day to day. The simple fact of the matter is the UNIONS share in the blame just as much as the company! They have never once demanded that the judge appoint a trustee who is capable of making Good business decisions!! Until management is made accountable the airline will continue to make the same mistakes over and over!!!! They will continue on this path of more costly and uncomfortable RJ's, while maineline continues to subsidize the failing RJ operation. :down: :down:
