US Attendance Warning for Pit Employees

As I drove around this oh so great city of PITTsburgh I saw quite a few people on the roads, malls were open, gyms were open, grocery stores were open, restraunts were open, parking lots were full and all this durring a state of emergency. If others in other industries could make it into work, what makes the oh so great union employees of US Airways so special that they should not be at their jobs ontime?

Could it be because they would rather claim it is unsafe to drive then end up at a bar drinknig?

This is nothing more than a power play by ineffectual management.

"Yes Tempe we told them to get their butts to work or we would teach them a lesson!!!!"

And the front line yawns.

That's what I've been bit&%ing about with the schools being closed all week. The gym is jammed with all of the obnoxious teenagers who couldn't get to school because it was so unsafe. Actually there have been many US employees at the gym too, but I think a lot of them come after their shift as most are dressed for work.

You must be speaking of PIT and not my area that's for sure. I'm in the DC area and most of my community does not have power right now. All of my children's schools are in our community and so is the gym.

You've obviously never lived in one of these snow areas before. I have in both NY and VT. When you get a snowstorm (and I'm talking run of the mill not a BIG storm) you have power lines falling from the weight of the snow. You might or might not have power. The roads might or might not be blocked by the pole. The main roads are plowed, the large businesses have plow companies on speed dial. Late in the first day the arterial roads get plowed. The main roads get plowed again. The backroads start getting plowed, then stopped because you need to plw the main and arterials again. It's not BS; it can take DAYS for many residential streets to get plowed. Throw in accidents, visibility, other weather... It's exceptionally possible for a town to look busy and many to still be stuck. I was in one storm in VT where I couldn't get out of my parking space no matter how hard I tried. The roads were fine, but it was impossible to get to them.

Grew up in Ohio and experienced many snow days. Also freezing rain. 35minute commute to work on a good day but always gave myself plenty of time to get to work on time and safely.

The only ones that seem to have a problem is union people. Most others will find the way to get to work.

Malikie etal must have the money to live either a- close to an airport or b-in the city limits. Most of us live in rural areas where the secondary streets get plowed last. Sure our driveways are shoveled but the street abutting is not and very high with snow. You cannot park the car on a snow emergency street or it will get towed. You have to understand that the employee will go unpaid when not being able to show up due to these onditions . Double jeopardy is the bottom line here. NO pay and attendance levels. Management in PIT, given Hotel space at the HYATT where they dont even have to set a toe in snow because the hotel is in the airport building?
I do urge all to write to your mayors, congressmen, senators and govenors to voice what Usairways is doing. There is NO FAULT language added to the ACP program in place. If they wanted the employees to show they should have opted vor vols and put them in the HYATT HOTEL! I was advised that mgmt in PHL did take these precautions and had a PLAN in place.

I don't like where this is headed, and some of you seem to be leaning toward posting flame bait.

I just renamed another new thread CWA, so please continue any discussion about this there.....

That said, without proof this is just a rumor.....
