Here we go again. Pittsburgh Airport customer servic management have advised all front line employees that if they do not come to work today and on time they will all be put on attendance levels. Rural roads are still not plowed and many are snowed in. Managment could give a hoot about public safety or employee safety. It has been confirmed though that management is afforded the luxury of staying in the HYATT Hotel for this storm. Rendell and Spector will be advised that because it was not noted as a state of emergency but a state of disaster on their gov't website they can play Russian roulette with human lives. I hope FFOCUS mobilizes this report and does not close this thread.

That would be a slam dunk grievance. That is not even consistent with their own flawed attendance policy. How can you take someone with no point and put them on a level? Once again the management at this company creating their own rules as they go along. What else is new??

MOD NOTE:

This thread is ONLY for the purpose of discussing the notice from PIT supervision regarding attendance during the storm. DO not make it about the storm itself or other labor issues.

We will watch this thread and close it if necessary, but it seems to be a unique enough topic to warrant its own discussion.

Upper management in PIT has been trying to manage by intimidation for a long time.

Front line employees in PIT have been calling management bluffs for just as long.

Notices from PIT supervision regarding attendance during the storm.
Went to arbitration for customer service agents

It might be more fun to wait, get the attendance knock, and then sue them. Easy money. State of Emergency, state of disaster whatever. Unless you're emergency personnel you stay the hell off of the roads.

They're probably panicking. There's no one to do the work and they don't know what to do. It's even worse for the Company because the Company provided Management rooms, but not the employees they're writing up. They can do the work and be grieved (sucessfully too). They can not do the work and be disciplined themselves. They can be sued for pressuring employees to work. And I still maintain that if someone is injured or dies trying to come to work because of this the Company will be held partially at fault.

Assuming everything I read here is true it is yet one more example of why US Airways will never be a world class carrier.

Logic and/or common sense would seem to question the wisdom of browbeating agents with threats, intimidation and various Draconian disciplinary measures, given the fact that those very same people will be expected to smile and be polite of customers who are equally distressed due to adverse weather conditions.

NOT at US Airways!!!! I will get a lifetime ban if I type what I'm thinking regarding putting managers in hotels. I say let THEM sling the freaking bags.

Mgmt in one station - not affected by this storm - was questioned "what is that happened here".
Response: "You are to be at work on time. You chose to live so far from the airport".
I imagine that is the attitude of PIT mgmt. While the CWA's grievance process is rather toothless, I hope they prevail on this one.

The IAM in CLT has all ready won this years ago.

It won't stop them! They will waste Union resources at every turn in the hopes that if they hand out discipline points to 100 people who are senior and 10 quit in frustration, they reduce TOS employees by 10 and the arbitration cost is less then what they save TOS vs New Hire.

For workers it's their standard of living, For the Compnay it's a line item on the expense ledger. Doesn't cost Dougie a dime. He's still got plenty of beer money either way.

Dexter:
I would tell them where to go. You all are not emergency personnel. It's your safety first. They could care less about you or any other employee. If you all do not feel it's safe to attempt to come in don't do it. Grieve the crap out of it & get a lawyer if need be.

I'm so mad right now I got to stop.

They did get almost four inches at the airport, how are people expected to travel in a storm of that magnitude?
