Wow, shame some of this couldn't have gone toward employees or service improvements.

Forbes article

WASHINGTON - US Airways Group Inc. spent $540,000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.

The company lobbied on legislation regarding aviation security and spending, reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration and other bills, according to the form posted online Aug. 27 by the Senate's public records office.

540K is nothing!

Do you realize how much money United spent on lobbying efforts to get the pensions reduced and eliminated?

What they are lobbying for is something that will benefit the airline and eventually the employess since some of the costs that airlines have to spend will be passed onto the general aviation community if their legislation is passed. Most airlines are involved in this lobbying, not sure why the author only chose to highlight USair.

Again, 540K may seem like a lot, but I do not really see why Forbes magazine would run an article about such a pittance. Must have been a slow day.

This is a stupid thread!!!!!

Companies spend millions a year lobbying congress for different issues.

US Airways and other airlines are right to have spent that money to lobby congress for improvements and fairness in our industry.

I would expect nothing less and neither should YOU!!!

Just looking for yet another thing to TRY and biatch about!!!!

This IS NOT biatch worthy.

Probably because of disclosure statements and such.

Just like some of our employees, they are just looking for something potentially negative to say about US Airways.

To Forbes though, this is common practice with companies.... I dunno????

Do unions spend money on lobbying? If so, how much did IAM, ALPA, etc. spend in the last year or two?

It still goes to show what the company considers a "pittance", still they have fought tooth and nail, even in the legal system, to make sure I don't make more than 20k in my eighth year of loyal service..

EMBFA,

Respectfully, if you're making under 20K after 8 years and you're still employed by US Airways then it's your fault.

540K out of 12 BILLION is not a ton of money and I expected a much larger number. But I guess it is yet another example of doing everything on the cheap.

True Dat Big Piney,

Why these people make careers out of a waitressing job for that kind of money is beyond me.

Well Bob, you continue to pay for and fly what is clearly a shitty and sub-par experience. Any of your complaints are your fault.

Most would agree that your frequent flyer points are much more disposable and easier to earn than my seniority.

So I guess we both have our reasons we still hang out at this shithole.

Respectfully, EMBFA

This argument is really weak. If it is that bad then go work at any of a number of other places that will give you a 9-5 job with stability and benefits for 20K, a 20K job is a dime a dozen. Weak argument on your part. After 8 years making 20K is simply laziness on your part. Do something with your life and stop feeling sorry for yourself thinking that the only thing you can do is work for USAir.

Obviously it's not my sole source of income nor the only thing I 'do with my life.'

And you folks must have pretty miserable existences if you have nothing better to do than read internet forums about 'glorified waitresses' and opine about airlines. Creepy. Who are the ones who need to get a life?

So hey, suck this.

So what you are saying is Brad Paisley is singing about us???

Look, I was not trying to disparage you. It just gets tiresome when you hear people complain about things that they knew going in. Look, you guys have a chance to do something about your life. There are those who do it, and those who simply complain about. I left the airline a few years back, it was tough at first, but I only wish I had left 10 years sooner rather than work there for 10 years.

There are great careers to be had out there if you are willing to take a chance, or you can try fight the windmills. Fighting windmills can be noble, as long as you remain focused on the goals.

You called me lazy, when in fact you know nothing about my life outside of what I present about one facet of it on here. You know nothing of my continuing education or employment outside of the airline. Like all of my co-workers I have an opportunity to change things at US Airways and am active in doing so in more ways than you probably suspect. Maybe you were too lazy to.

I'd rather be invloved in fighting the windmills that trolling on internet boards about the windmills I was so happy to leave.

I have no idea who Brad Paisley is, without google-ing I'm guessing he's a country singer so it's probably a good thing.

Obviously not lazy since I saw the handwriting on the wall and went and got the degree I needed. Good to see you are doing the same. Maybe you should listen to country music, it might calm you down a bit and you wouldn't feel the need to yell across an Internet board for a complete stranger to 'suck it' :)
