That's still a lot of slots - assuming "flights" means a round trip. Since I don't keep up with such things, just how many slots does the Shuttle have at DCA & LGA?

Clue:

Yes, the rule was changed a few months ago and the new DCA commuter seat restriction is now 76 seats. By the way, when I said DCA I should have included IAD for more long haul service too.

Not quite. Reducing fares out of PHL affects every other city. Instead of booking DCA-SEA, for example, using a fare published for DCA-SEA, you book DCA-PHL-SEA using two fares. The system still treats it as a connection when you check-in. I do this all the time to take advantage of the PHL-SEA A fares.
BULL !!

You think I am going to book PIT - PHL -SEA ?? Get real. Unless US forces a connection on you NO customer in their right mind is going to purposely book such an itinerary.

They will drive up the airfares in every other city once WN arrives in PHL. I'm already seeing it in PIT on some of my commonly flown routes.

Anyone west of PHL is screwed.

Anticipate significant BOS, LGA, & DCA expansion to the tune of about 200 additional flights per day. Expect more point-to-point long haul flying from these markets.

Sounds more like VirginUSA's route structure to me.

Where are they going to get the crews and airplanes for this??

This is what I've been saying. Use the big jets to fly to places that residents of Boston, NYC and Washington want to go. Use 170s where you can in commuter slots. Hell, I'm not going to re-state it.. I posted it somewhere else.

Then what was the purpose of the Captain saying to expect over 200 more flights coming out of BOS, LGA, etc.????? And what does that have to do with U, then?? Am I confused?

I'm also wondering how they planto go areound the perimeter rules in DCA and LGA. And by more flight are wetalking about smart things like NE-FL, BOS transcon, and ORD from all three? Are are we talking about more contracted pencil jets to the Charlottesvilles and Wilmingtons of the world? I see no point in diluting the already weak hubs with more Express flights to the same old small cities... but they cant really go all out in LGA and DCA and do the service that would do well because of permiter (LAX, SFO, LAS etc.)

Why would U expand out of IAD (a United hub)? Wouldn't just codesharing on UA's long-hauls to the West Coast from IAD be more effective (and profitable)?
