American Chief Executive Douglas Parker, the former CEO of US Airways, told an aviation summit in Washington on Thursday that the addition of US Air gives the American-British Airways alliance "twice the scale" of a similar venture that Delta Air Lines began with Britain's Virgin Atlantic Airways earlier this year that operates more than 30 flights
"We're well ahead of them already," Willie Walsh, CEO of British Air parent International Airlines Group, said on the sidelines of the conference.
They have special (contracted) personnel that provides connecting flight information, boarding passes, and fast track security passes to passengers with tight connections. For AA agents at hubs (MIA I'm speaking of) they have BA and IB personnel at the transfer desk to assist on itineraries with partners.john john said:Not sure what this involves
Dedicated support teams for customers connecting at nine of the airlines' hubs: Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, New York's JFK and Philadelphia
Other gateways US serves in Europe at Finnair also serves. Just because they don't directly serve US hubs on their own metal doesn't mean they can't be part of the JV.nycbusdriver said:So....is US Airways part of oneworld, or not? If so, why the hoopla over marketing agreements with only a few of the oneworld members?
And Finnair's comment was amusing about how "seamless" things are now. US doesn't serve Helsinki, and Finnair doesn't serve PHL or CLT.. So where exactly is that seamless improvement?

A JV isn't just a mere "marketing agreement"... like someone stated, it is full revenue splits between, for example, transatlantic ops, plus so much more. The amount of coordination is astounding!
I was fortunate enough to have been given a tour of the oneworld HQ on Park Avenue (all new-hire NYC-based flight attendants at AA are given this opportunity, along with a catered lunch during our base indoc ) and it is truly fascinating to see the open-layout floorplan for all the airlines who participate in the JV. However, oneworld members without JV agreements are walled off with glass partitions from the rest of the desks, literally for legal reasons.
