Don't forget, though, that Alaska also has extensive codesharing with AA. There has been talk (or rumor-mongering...whichever you prefer ) since shortly after 9/11 that AMR would buy Alaska for its North-South routes along the Pacific Coast.

I think if Dl went after Alaska as a merger/purchase partner, there would be at least one other bidder at the "auction."

Is not AK relationship with NW much longer and deeper then its code share with AA?

I'm pretty sure it's much more extensive than with AA... However, AS is nothing if not a code share whore. All you need to do is walk by one of the signs at their gates and see all of their partners listed.

With that said, while this "big" LAX announcement was something of a non-event, I still think it was a good thing, and can only help both DL & AS...

As for another merger? Well, I would hope they get the NW/DL one smoothed out first.
