FWAAA,
When will you and others get off the idea of TED not being a finacial success simply because those that work it, are paid the same as mainline. The entire airline is at a low payscale!!!!!!
SW 12yr Captains make $59/hr more than a 12yr A-320 Ted/Mainline Captain at UAL. Heck, any Captain at SW makes at least $37/hr more than the most senior 320/300 Captain!
So actually Ted does work for cheap. And so does mainline UAL.
When will you and others quit confusing "low wages" with "low costs?" One doesn't guarantee the other.
I'm well aware that the only legacy airline pilots with a higher hourly book rate than WN captains are AA's 777 captains.
UAL has low wages, to be sure. But compared to WN, it hasn't got low costs. That's why inventing a pretend low-cost division (Ted) to go head to head with WN is really stupid. UAL (and the other legacies) would be much better served if they combined/consolidated (reducing high-priced capacity in the process) and then focused on their mileage addicts and higher-yielding customers. Song didn't work out for DL; it's only a matter of time until UAL admits the same about Ted, as well.
