I find it rather amusing that Local 501 protested Qatar Airlines in NYC because they won't use our ramp guys, but I don't see the TWU protesting AMR headquarters with a big rat. It's bonus day at AMR, and I don't see a big rat by the front door???

I must say....on this issue.....big deal..
Here's a little history lesson for those who remember.....
Before maintenance and related were separate from 501 and we were all one big happy local......And the officers of that local were all line cargo/ ramp people....THEY GAVE A RAT'S ASS WHEN CONTRACT AFTER CONTRACT CAME ON THE JFK RAMP AND NO MECHANICS DID THE WORK ON MANY A FOREIGN CARRIER. It was only since getting our own local that we began getting contract work...Even though now we do practically none.
Sorry 501, you're on your own..

Here's another tidbit for the protesters......QATAR originally wanted AA to handle their ground ops at JFK but did not want all the full time man hours that the contract called for. They refused to pay for more than what they needed.

Were there t-shirts and slogans?
If not this was surely a waste of TWU time.

So some whiners showed up and demonstrated their full blown assnine ways.....So what did they accomplish or change?

Did QATAR come running out and explain that they would give in to whatever demands they had just please stop protesting?

Thank you for the history, I wondered why there were no mechanics on the protest line. Regarding this particular protest the QATAR & AA logo were void of all visible signs here. Actually local 100, of the city's MTA was there with much more organization, signs, and people. So other than the people at the line, the viewing public made no connection to our plight. I'll know better next time not to waste my time. Thanks again.
