Twa

Because most of the previous TWA threads have been wind up posts or degraded into shouting matches with no useful information being posted. If the threads stay on topic and follow board rules, you can post all the TWA threads you want. Do you have something you'd like to say?

Did American get all of the TWA planes painted or just store them in the desert?
The 717s were returned. The DC-9s were returned to their lessors. The 767-300s were retired.

Most of the MD-80s were stripped of TWA livery and given AA livery, as were most of the 757s.

As you know, AA didn't buy TWA to get its planes.

All of the 757's and MD80's were stripped and received AA livery. The first 757 will go back to the lessor in December, as was the original plan. Ten more 757's go back the first half of 2004, leaving 16. The leases on those AC are up in 2007, IIRC. This was the original plan when AA bought TWA, that the 757's would be returned when their leases expired.

28 ex-TWA MD80's are parked waiting for conditions to justify bringing them back into service.

MK,
Which S80's are parked? I have heard different stories on them. I have heard that they are the last batch to come off the Long Beach line and they are parked because of the cockpit is "glass" and the FAA wouldn't sign off on letting AA cross train our S80 pilots on the newer verson. I also heard that they are all in need of "Heavy C" M&E work & since that is so expensive to perform it's more cost + to park-em and wait things out.
I have personally worked several of the "fence hoppers" and by looking at the FWD Entry Door and the metal cert. inside the door frame they all have said "Boeing" not "MacDoug." and the c/p has what appears to be "glass" dial's instead of the analog or what they are called that are on even AA's last S83's. I don't know I just board it and make sure the ovens have there damn racks in them-LOL. Interesting that some of them are more "refitted" then others,ie:the first class seats are either new "fancy" cardboard seats with expensive leather headrests or they are "recovered" seats in just the new fabric w/no leather.
I wonder does anybody know which 76's are parked? What are there tail #'s? In RES it still lists ALL the 76's in the N*JETSA. They are the 200er's or also the orig 8 200's that are used on the 3-class AFS transcon routes?
Oh well off to do my FLL-LGA t/a wearing my World Champion Florida Marlins T-shirt w/my pins and wings. Trying to get that spark back somehow. They (psgrs) loved it yesterday, well not ALL of them loved it-:)
Peace

Silverbird,
The last deliveries of the MD-80 that came off the
LGB production line (9600 numbered aircraft) were
the first TWA MD-80's to come over to the AA operation.
The primary differences being the engine display panel,
electronic annunciator panel, Flight Management System
and the engine ignition system. There are here at AA as
I fly a couple of the ex-TWA jets a week. It's still a Douglas,
it just looks a little different.

The 767-300's are STILL sitting in GSO. The 11 757's that are to be returned are going in Nov. We are probably drinking beer from the DC-9's :)

The 28 MD-80's that are at ROW are being prepared to come out of the desert and back into the rotation until they can come back full time.

Also, I heard 14 AA 767-200's are being prepared for a return to the line. They are probably pretty beat up(due to their age) but a seat is a seat.TC

Finally a decent thread-----instead of the usual TWU/AMFA crap or the AA/TWA bashing.

Your sources are inconsistent with AA's announced fleet plan as to the 767-200s and the MD-80s:

The 14 767-200s are scheduled to be stored until 2005 and 2006. 10 are scheduled to return in 2005 and 4 more in 2006.

Of the 24 MD-80s that were stored this year (on top of 4 already in storage during 2002), 2 are scheduled to return in 2005 and 15 more in 2006. The rest will return in 2007 or later (if they ever return).

The DC-9s are still stored by AA and are for sale.
